Hanover, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's track and field team took home the Tartan Award for the collegiate team champion at the 2008 Dartmouth Relays today.
The Big Green finished with 86.33 points, ahead of Northeastern with 67.33. The Dartmouth women were denied a fifth-straight Tartan title, finishing second with 49.25 points while Northeastern took the crown with 88.5 points.
Several meet records fell on the final day of the 39th annual relays. Hank Palmer of St. Laurent Select broke the 60 meter dash record with a 6.67 time in the semi-finals, breaking a one-year-old record set by Emmanuel Parris (Sherbrooke) of 6.78. Sherbrooke's Marie-Eve Dugas also broke a year-old record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.58 to top Ester Akinsulie's (Ottowa Lions) 8.63 mark from 2007. Also on the women's side, Northeastern's 4x200 relay team set a record with a time of 1:44.41, topping the relay team from Williams' 1:46.7 mark in 2006.
The Big Green nearly swept the men's 3000, with six of the top 10 spots.
Harry Norton (N. Reading, Mass.) won the race in 8:26.27 with
Oliver Townsend (Signal Mtn., Tenn.) taking third at 8:34.49 and
John Schroeder (Nashua, N.H.) finishing fifth in 8:43.95. Dartmouth senior
Mike Carmody (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) took first in the 800 at 1:52.51, almost six seconds ahead of Keene State's Craig MacPherson. Classmate
Charlie Stoebe (Westport, Conn.) took second in the 400 with a time of 51.07 and the 4x400 relay team finished third in a time of 3:26.20. Also on the track,
Dwayne Alexis finished sixth in the mile at 4:21.78.
The Big Green finished third through fifth in the high jump with
Tyler Koskenoja (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) leading the way at 1.93 for third place.
Andrew Ching (Calgary, Alta) was fourth and
Noah Glick took fifth. Sophomore
Ted Lesher (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) finished fifth in the long jump at 6.44 21-01.5. Lebanon native Anthony Vorachak took sixth in the event at 6.37 20-10.75. Junior
Alex Lippai (West Mifflin, Pa.) was Dartmouth's top finisher in the weight throw at 17.25 m. Former Dartmouth great and Olympian Adam Nelson '97 won the shot put with 20.71 m while junior
Lee Murtha (Pierpont, Ohio) was the current squads best finisher at 14.24.
The women's field events took center stage for Dartmouth, with
Emily Daly (Hopkinton, Mass.) leading the way with a third place finish in the weight throw and a fifth place finish in the shot put. Senior
Jessica Long (Lynn, Mass.) finished fourth and sixth in those events, respectively. Junior
Natalie Todd-Zebell (Portland, Ore.) was the Big Green's top pole vaulter, finishing fourth after clearing 3.51 m, 11-06.25.
Micaela Carwell (Lacona, N.H.) paced the jumpers with a second place finish in the long jump at 5.16 meters and a fourth place result in the triple jump at 10.71 meters.
Z-Hye Lee (Old Tappan, N.J.) was fourth in the long jump at 4.93 and fifth in the triple at 10.25 meters.
Sarah Klassen (Peterborough, Ont.) tied for third in the high jump while local product
Nicole LaBombard (Lebanon, N.H.) finished tied for ninth.
