Hanover, N.H.- A woeful shooting night plagued the Dartmouth women's basketball team in a 47-34 loss to Ivy rival Harvard tonight at Leede Arena.
The Big Green posted its second-lowest scoring output of the season while shooting just 24 percent from the floor and 9.5 percent from three-point range. Dartmouth held Harvard to its season-low of 47 points on 33.9 percent shooting, matching its tally in the Big Green's 52-47 win over the Crimson on Jan. 5. The teams split the season series, but Dartmouth dropped to 4-12 (1-1 Ivy) tonight while Harvard improved to 8-8 (1-1 Ivy).
Sydney Scott (Houston, Texas) paced Dartmouth with a double-double on 10 points and 13 rebounds while Betsy Williams (Norwich, Vt.) had 11. Harvard's Emma Markley came in off the bench to lead her team with 13 points. The Crimson's 54-32 rebounding advantage and 11 second-half turnovers by Dartmouth proved the difference makers.
Dartmouth moved out to an early lead in the contest, up 7-2 after five-straight from Williams and a Scott jumper. Harvard answered with an 8-0 run capped by a Liz Tindal three to regain the lead, up 10-7 at 13:02. The Big Green battled back to go up 14-13 at 7:23 on a free-throw by Brittney Smith (Fort Worth, Texas), but that would prove to be Dartmouth's last lead of the game.
The teams tied at 18-18 at 4:38 before the Crimson closed the half on a 10-2 run to take a 28-20 halftime lead.
The Big Green regrouped and came out solid in the second half, starting with an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 30-28 at 14:07. The Big Green's defense kept things close, but Harvard held Dartmouth scoreless for next six minutes until Scott hit one of two free-throws to make it 36-29, Harvard.
Markley responded with two-straight jumpers for Harvard and the Big Green did not hit a field goal until a Williams jumper at 5:03, making it 42-31 in favor of the Crimson. It was Dartmouth's first basket in nearly 10 minutes. The teams combined for just two more buckets in the final five minutes to take the final to 47-34, Harvard.
Emily Tay also scored in double figures for Harvard with 10, while Adrian Budischak was the Crimson's top rebounder with 11.
Dartmouth junior guard Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) had four steals but saw her eight-game double-digit scoring streak come to an end. Schram has scored at least 10 points in nine of the last 11 games.
The Big Green will look to regroup this week before hosting Princeton this coming Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and Penn on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
