PRINCETON, N.J. ? Dartmouth freshman Jabari Trotter (Northridge, Calif.) was selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for games ending Dec. 7 after scoring 15 points against America East title contender Vermont last Tuesday. Trotter is the second Big Green player to earn a weekly award from the conference this year -- senior Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) was the Co-Player of the Week two weeks ago.
Trotter, a 6-1, 185-pound point guard who attended Northridge High before a post-grad year at Phillips Exeter last year, dropped in seven of his 10 field goal attempts and his lone foul shot to account for his 15 points. He also had a pair of rebounds, one assist and a block in 32 minutes of action. In Dartmouth's six games this season, the rookie has scored at least 15 in half of them and played at least 31 minutes in all but one. For the season, Trotter is shooting 48 percent (24-of-50) with 15 assists and 10 steals, while his 11.0 points per game are second most among Ivy freshmen.
Earning honor roll mention was Barnett for his career-high 32 points in the 88-71 loss to the Catamounts. He hit 12-of-19 from the floor and a scintillating 6-of-7 from behind the arc to keep Dartmouth within one possession until about 12 minutes to play. Twenty of his 32 points came in the second half.
Dartmouth (1-5) has a two-game homestand beginning on Sunday, Dec. 14 against another New Hampshire school, Plymouth State (3-4), in the first-ever meeting between the two colleges. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
