STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Dartmouth softball continued play at the Stony Brook Invitational with an early game against the host Seawolves before an afternoon matchup with Quinnipiac.
In the first game of the day the Big Green used two runs in the bottom of the third to defeat Stony Brook, 2-0. In Game Two, Quinnipiac scored first with three runs in the top of the first and second enroute to a 5-0 victory by the Bobcats.
Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) was the Big Green's first base runner of the day with a leadoff single through the left side in the opening frame against Stony Brook. A sacrifice bunt by
Kirsten Costello (Windsor, N.Y.) moved Autin to second. Two more outs left Autin on second.
A hit batter gave Stony Brook its first runner in the top of the third but she would remain at second base as starter
Devin Lindsay (Whittier, Calif.) and the Big Green defense remained tough.
Three straight walks in the bottom of the third gave Dartmouth its first multiple base runners before
Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif.) scored the first two Big Green runners with a pop to right field as Willa Johan (Montauk, N.Y.) and
Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif.) came around.
Lindsay allowed a walk in the next inning as the Seawolves had just its second base runner of the day but still had not recorded a hit. Despite the walk, Lindsay struck the next batter out swinging for her fourth strikeout of the game.
Despite loading the bases with walks, the Big Green was unable to garner anymore runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Seawolves broke up Lindsay's no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth with a bloop ball that dropped just behind first base. That however would be the only player to reach base as Dartmouth shut down the host team to keep the score, 2-0 after six full innings.
Despite a single up the middle by Yee in the top of the seventh the Big Green was unable to garner anymore runs as Dartmouth's 2-0 lead held up for its fourth victory of the season.
Lindsay earned her first shutout of the season with the victory and she is now 1-3 on the season. She walked just one batter while striking out five. Alyssa Struzenberg and Casey Jacobs combined for eight strikouts for Stony Brook. Autin, Gleason and Yee had the only hits in the game for Dartmouth.
In the second game of the day Quinnipiac started things off with two hits and a run in the top of the first.
Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill.) singled through the left side in Dartmouth's half of the inning but she would stay at first as the Big Green was unable to match the Bobcats run.
Two more runs came across for Quinnipiac in the top of the second as Dartmouth recorded three errors early in the contest.
The Big Green got its second base runner in the game after
Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) reached on a walk in the bottom of the fourth. Unfortunately a lineout ended the inning and Dartmouth was unable to capitalize on the walk.
A runner for the Big Green in the bottom of the fifth gave the team some life but no runs. The Bobcats got two more across in the top of the sixth with two, two-out doubles to center field.
Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) took the loss for the Big Green as she gave up five runs with one walk and five strikeouts. Carolyn Schmolz went the complete game for Quinnipiac giving up just one hit while striking out three.
