Women's Tennis Sees Decisive Win Against Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The No. 53 Dartmouth women's tennis team won its fourth straight spring break match, downing Florida Atlantic University 6-1 this afternoon. The 3-12 Owls were coming off a 6-1 victory over Columbia, but were no match for the 11-1 Big Green.

Dartmouth won the doubles point, getting wins from freshman Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.) and senior co-captain Megan Zebroski (Port Washington, N.Y.) at No. 1 and from senior co-captain Maggie Suydam (Marblehead, Mass.) and freshman Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas), who clinched the point with a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles. Juniors Jennifer and Danielle Murray (Abbotsford, B.C.) fought hard at No. 3, but ultimately fell 8-5 to a tough freshmen tandem.

There was a slight rain delay shortly after singles started, but the skies soon cleared and the players returned to the courts. Scott and Zebroski both won handily at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions respectively. Sophomore Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) won in straight sets at No. 3, while Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) was edged at No. 4 in a third set super-breaker by talented freshman Virginia Augustin, who has had wins over Columbia and Boston College this spring. Smyser and freshman Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) put the final two points on the board for Dartmouth, as Smyser won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 and Reichel won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6.

The Big Green return to action against Army at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion on Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m. (please note that the match time has been changed from 12 noon to 1 p.m.) We look forward to seeing all our fans at the match!
