HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth men's basketball returns to Leede Arena this weekend to face Yale and Brown in its final two games of the season. Coming off of a satisfying win in its rematch against Columbia University last Saturday, the Big Green is looking for similar results as it faces both the Bulldogs and the Bears for the second time this year.
Saturday's game against Brown will be senior night for the Big Green, as Dartmouth bids farewell to its two senior captains,
Johnathan Ball (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Michael Giovacchini (Salt Lake City, Utah).
The March 1 game against Columbia saw the Green successfully shut down the Lions as junior
Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) sank a game-high 19 points. In the first half, Dartmouth held its opponent to just 14 points and led by 13 with 27 points going into halftime. Holding onto their margin through the second half, Big Green players were repeatedly sent to the line as the Lions began to foul them in desperation. The Columbia gamble did not pay off, however, as Dartmouth scored 13 free throws in the final three minutes of the game to finish with a 63-47 win over the Lions.
Yale arrives at Leede Arena this weekend after defeating Princeton last Saturday. At 5-7 in Ivy competition, the Bulldogs are ranked fifth in the league. With an 11-15 overall record, Yale is led in scoring by captain Eric Flato, who has 12.1 points per game. Dartmouth will also be wary of junior Ross Morin and senior Caleb Holmes, who each have just over 10 points per game.
At 9-3 in the Ivy League, Brown is second only to Cornell. Coming off a crushing 75-43 defeat of Penn last Saturday, the Bears are at 17-9 for the season. Players to watch out for on the Bears roster include captains Mark McAndrew, who leads the Ivies with 16.8 points per game, and Damon Huffman, who ranks fifth in the league with 14.7 points per game.
Dartmouth will face Yale on Friday, March 7 at 7:00 pm. Senior night ceremonies will kick off at 7:00 pm for Saturday's game against Brown, with the game set to begin at 7:15.
