FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The 17th ranked Dartmouth men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 battle at Sacred Heart this afternoon.

Dartmouth had a flurry of activity midway through the first half, with a header by Maarten van Ess (Marlborough, Mass.) that was saved by SHU's Matt Jones followed by an attempt by Lucky Mkosna (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and another by van Ess. Sacred Heart broke through for its lone goal in the 41st minute when Lusiano Dadario sent the ball in for Jason Tessitore, who beat Dartmouth keeper Sean Milligan (Westport, Conn.) at the far post.
The teams were slow to start in the second, half, but Dartmouth controlled the pace to keep Sacred Heart on its heels.
The Big Green kept the pressure on late and looked ready for the equalizer with just over 10 minutes remaining. Causing a frenzy in the Pioneers' 18, Dartmouth started with a header by van Ess that was saved at 77:13. Senior Craig Henderson (Wellington, New Zealand) had his follow-up shot blocked before van Ess nearly tied it but the Pioneers defense saved the goal. Rookie Nick Pappas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had his attempt go wide and Sacred Heart finally cleared it.
