Dartmouth Women's Soccer (5-4, 2-0 Ivy) This Week:
The Dartmouth women's soccer team (5-4, 2-0 Ivy) has a big weekend ahead, traveling to Yale for a critical Ivy showdown on Friday night at 7 p.m. before hosting instate rival New Hampshire on Sunday at 2 p.m. Dartmouth is hosting Soccer Without Borders Day on Sunday with a postgame clinic to benefit the cause.
Game 10: Dartmouth at Yale (6-3, 1-0 Ivy)
Date: Friday, October 9 at 7 PM
Location: Reese Stadium, New Haven Conn.
Series Record: Dartmouth leads, 18-15-2
The Big Green leads the all-time series but the Bulldogs won
the most recent meeting, 2-0 in 2008. Prior to that, the Big Green won
back-to-back 1-0 contests in 2006 and 2007. The first-ever meeting between the
teams came on Oct. 1, 1978, a year before Dartmouth became varsity, and the
Green won 2-0 in Hanover.

Game 11: Dartmouth vs. New Hampshire (2-9-1)
Date: Sunday, October 11 at 2 PM
Location: Burnham Field, Hanover, N.H.
Series Record: Dartmouth leads, 22-5-2
Dartmouth holds a big advantage in the all-time series
against instate rival UNH, having not lost since 1991. In that timespan,
Dartmouth is 16-0-1 and has won the last four straight after a 1-1 tie in 2004.
It took overtime last season, but then freshman Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.)
scored her second-straight overtime winner to put the Big Green on top, 2-1.
This Time Out: The Big Green has a full weekend with a big Ivy showdown on Friday at Yale and a home game against New Hampshire on Sunday. Yale (6-3, 1-0 Ivy) has had some solid results this season and most recently had last Saturday's Ivy tilt with Harvard postponed due to thunderstorms after 45 minutes of scoreless play. The teams will not make up the game until Oct. 20. Despite its 2-9-1 record, UNH has had some close calls this year including six one-goal losses.
Last Time Out: Dartmouth picked up a critical early Ivy win to move to 2-0 with a 2-1 double overtime defeat of Princeton last Saturday at Burnham Field. After Princeton held an 8-3 shot advantage in the first half and the game was tied 1-1 at the half, Dartmouth really turned the tables in the second. During the final 57 minutes of the second half and overtime, the Big Green outshot the Tigers, 14-4 with the Princeton keeper making some impressive saves to hold off Dartmouth. She couldn't come up with one last one in double-overtime when senior Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) beat her off a corner kick from Melisa Krnjaic (Washington, D.C.). For Hubbard, a defensive midfielder, it was her first goal since the 2007 season. Sophomore Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) scored her fifth goal of the season in the first half. Classmate Colleen Hogan made six saves in goal and Dartmouth outshot Princeton, 17-12 for the game.
Playing for a Cause: On Sunday, Dartmouth hosts "Soccer Without Borders" day to benefit a cause very close to the Big Green's hearts. Information is available about the non-profit organization, which uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change in the lives of marginalized youth. Assistant coach Mary McVeigh '03 is one of the program directors for the Granada, Nicaragua program and current players Becky Poskin '09, Ali Hubbard '10 and Myra Sack '10 spent three months last winter volunteering for the program.
About 30 minutes after Sunday's game, the Dartmouth coaches and players will host a skills clinic for youth of all ages with a suggested donation of $10-20 to benefit Soccer Without Borders. Donations of $20 or more will receive an event t-shirt. Clinic sign-up begins immediately following the final whistle of the game and it will begin approximately 30 minutes thereafter, running for just over an hour.
Classy Senior: Senior midfielder Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.) has been named one of 10 national finalists for the prestigious Lowe's Senior Class Award. The award recognizes excellence in competition, community, classroom and character. An All-Ivy and All-Northeast midfielder, Sack is the co-founder of Athletes United at Dartmouth and spent a semester volunteering for Soccer Without Borders in Nicaragua. Read more about Myra's candidacy here. Myra needs your help to win, as fan voting accounts for one-third of the final decision! Vote DAILY by visiting the Senior Class Award website here.
Rookie of the Week: Freshman back Aurelia Solomon
(Washington, D.C.) picked up her second Ivy League Rookie of the Week award for
her efforts against Princeton. Solomon, who has seen time in all nine games,
continued her solid play off the bench in a 2-1 double-overtime win over
Princeton. She gave the backline a boost midway though the second half and
remained on the pitch through overtime.
With Solomon in the game, Dartmouth held Princeton to just four shots - and
only one on goal - in the second half and two overtime periods combined. No
Tiger managed more than two shots individually in the contest.
Next Time Out: The Big Green has an Ivy road test on tap, heading to Penn on Saturday, Oct. 17 for a 5 p.m. start. Vermont and Columbia are on tap at home the following week, on Oct. 20 and 24, respectively.
