Second of Three on the Road
• Dartmouth opened the season with an 89-58 loss at Boston College. It was the fifth straight season the Big Green began a campaign with a loss — all on the road.
• The last victorious season opener for the Green came the last time they began the season at home — 2004-05 in a 66-61 triumph over Quinnipiac, Coach Dunn's first game as Dartmouth's head coach.
• Sophomore Jabari Trotter was the lone Dartmouth player in double figures with 10 points.
• Two more sophomores chipped in nine points apiece — David Rufful and Josh Riddle — with the latter hitting every shot he took to post a career high in scoring.
• Rufful was up to his old tricks, nabbing four steals. In league games last year, he led the conference in pilfers.
• Four of the five freshmen saw time, led by Matt LaBove's 12 minutes of action, while 14 of the 15 on the roster took the court.
• This is the second of three straight contests away from Leede Arena for the Green, their most true road games to start a season in 20 years.
Series vs. George Mason
• Dartmouth and George Mason have never met on the hardwood before this game.
• George Mason Director of Athletics, Thomas J. O'Connor, was the Dartmouth head coach for two seasons (1972-74), compiling a record of 10-42 with the Big Green.
• Both the Patriots and Dartmouth have played in a Final Four. George Mason had a memorable run in 2006, while the Big Green advanced to the title game in both 1942 and 1944.
Scouting the Patriots
• George Mason survived a scare on its home court Friday night by slipping past Liberty, 76-72. The Patriots led by as many as 19 in the second half, but their lead was clipped to three with two and a half minutes to play.
• Sophomore guard Andre Cornelius led GMU with 17 points with four trifectas, plus the last three points at the line in the final 22 seconds.
• Overall the game was quite even as both teams shot 25-of-58 from the floor and grabbed 38 rebounds
• Forwards Mike Morrison and Ryan Pearson were effective on the blocks, scoring 12 points each and grabbing 15 total rebounds.
• Freshman forward Luke Hancock enjoyed a fine debut with 11 points off the bench on 5-of-8 shooting and four rebounds.
• One encouraging sign for the Big Green is that George Mason gave up 30 points in the paint to the Flames.
