With the loss Dartmouth falls to 0-3 on the season while the Raiders improved to 4-2-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.
With the game all square, Colgate cashed in on its lone power play goal of the afternoon in seven attempts at 4:44 of the third.In the closing minutes Dartmouth pulled goalie Jody O'Neill (Nepean, Ont.) for the two-man advantage but Raiders netminder Charles Long came up big down the stretch with two important saves. The junior saved 16 shots in the first period and 14 more in the second.
After a scoreless first, Colgate got on the board at 6:45 of the second off a goale by David McIntyre. Less than two minutes later, the Raiders struck again, this time from Kevin McNamara.
Before the period had ended, the Big Green came storming back sending the game into the third period knotted at two. Walsh lit the lamp first at 8:41 with an assist going to Joe Gaudet (Etna, N.H.) before Goggin recorded his at 15:49 with the assist going to Andrew Owsiak (Moose Jaw, Sask.).
Colgate held Dartmouth scoreless in seven power play attempts. The win is the Raiders first home victory over the Big Green since a 3-1 win on January 23, 2004.
O'Neill saved 30 shots in net for Dartmouth while Long finished with 38.
Dartmouth returns to the road next weekend traveling to Princeton and Quinnipiac, Friday and Saturday. The Big Green and the Tigers square off first with a 7:00 drop of the puck.
