SAN JOSE, Calif - The Dartmouth softball team used four runs in the second and three in the fourth to take a 7-6 victory over San Jose State on Wednesday. The game wraps up the Big Green's spring trip as Dartmouth will head back to the east coast for a round of Ivy League games next weekend versus Penn and Columbia.
The Big Green got things going early in the top of the second with four runs, erasing a one-run SJSU lead. Molly Khalil (Seal Beach, Calif.) singled to left field before Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif.) added another single to the board. Leigha Clarkson's (Perris, Calif.) single to left and then a passed ball allowed Khalil to score. With Gleason on third and bases loaded, Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) singled, scoring Gleason before Nikki Yee's (Martinez, Calif.) singled in another run as Clarkson scored, knocking San Jose State starter Elyssa Fox out of the contest. The final run of the inning came when Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) reached on a fielders choice as Yee moved to second, Autin to third and Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill.) came around to score.
The home team got two runs back in the bottom of the third after a single, a sacrifice and an error allowed the Spartans to put a damper on the three-run Big Green lead.
The top of the next inning allowed Dartmouth to plate three more to take a 7-3 lead. With one out Autin singled with a bunt before Yee added another hit to her day. Kat Hicks (Templeton, Calif.) reached on a fielders choice as Yee moved to second and Autin came around to score on an error. Parker singled to right field, moving Hicks to third as Yee scored and Hicks moved to third. Khalil popped a double to center field as Hicks scored.
Three runs came across for San Jose State in the bottom of the fifth as Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) came on in relief of starter Devin Lindsay (Whittier, Calif.). Barker allowed one run and walked one batter before getting the final out of the inning with a ground out to third base.
Three Big Green hitters recorded two hits apiece as Yee, Khalil and Autin added to the nine-hit Dartmouth total. Parker was tops with two RBIs. Lindsay earned the win as she went 4.1 innings, striking out two. Barker picked up her second save of the season as she went 2.2 innings with two strikeouts.
The win gives the Big Green a 7-10 record as SJSU falls to 11-22.
