HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth softball team split a divisional doubleheader with Brown on Saturday afternoon at Sachem Field. The Bears were victorious in Game One, 2-1 but the Big Green stormed back to take Game Two, 4-0.
In the opener the Bears took an early lead with a run in the top of the third. Another Brown run in the top of the third had Dartmouth on its heels. In the bottom of the same inning Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) got her team one back with a homerun over the left field fence, her third of the season.
Despite nine hits in the game, the Big Green was unable to get anymore. Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kat Hicks (Templeton, Calif.) each had two hits in the game. In the circle, Devin Lindsay (Whittier, Calif.) went the complete game, allowing two earned runs while striking out two.
In the nighcap Brown had the first baserunner in the game in the top of the third after a Big Green error. The Bears were unable to get the runner across as the two teams went into the bottom of the same inning scoreless. Dartmouth threatened early in its half of the frame after a walk was issued to Kirsten Costello (Windsor, N.Y.) loading the bases for Molly Khalil (Seal Beach, Calif.). A hard hit ball to third base was mishandled by the Brown third basemen as two runners came around, giving the home team a 2-0 lead.
The Bears put two on in the fourth but were unable to put any on the board as pitcher Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) was able to shut Brown down. The Big Green put another across off another Brown error as Dartmouth went into the sixth with a 3-0 lead.
A double to center field by Parker led the inning off before she got another run for the home team in the bottom of the sixth to give the Big Green a final score of 4-0.
Costello, Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.), Barker and Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) all recorded the only hits for Dartmouth. In the circle Barker got her seventh win of the season, going a complete seven innings with seven strikeouts on the day.
Dartmouth and Brown will meet again tomorrow in a doubleheader scheduled for 12:00 pm.
