NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Dartmouth softball team took a 7-2 victory over Yale (17-21, 6-8 Ivy) on Saturday in the opener but the home team came back with eight runs in the nightcap to defeat the Big Green, 8-2.
In the opener Dartmouth's (19-16, 10-4 Ivy) Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif.) went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs as the division-leading Big Green took a 7-2 win. Molly Khalil (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) both added two hits as Dartmouth recorded 10 in the contest.
Pitcher Devin Lindsay (Whittier, Calif.) got the win as she went the complete game and held the Bulldogs to just four hits.
Dartmouth took an early lead in the first inning with a run but Yale came back and plated two to pull ahead. The Big Green added one more in the fifth before exploding for five runs in the sixth inning.
Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill.) began the inning with a single to the pitcher before Kat Hicks reached on a fielder's choice. Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) then singled to right field as the bases were loaded. Kirsten Costello (Windsor, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice as all runners advanced with Kolodziej scoring on an error. Yee doubled to left field, plating three. With one out Khalil put up a sacrifice fly to bring Yee home.
In the nightcap, Dartmouth took an early two-run lead in the fifth before the Elis came back with all eight of its runs in the bottom of the next frame.
Costello blasted a two-run homer as the Big Green looked to take its second consecutive sweep of an Ivy League opponent but eight runs on eight hits by the home team ended that thought for Dartmouth.
Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) took the loss for the Big Green. The freshman went the complete game with no earned runs to her credit.
Dartmouth and Yale will be back at it tomorrow with another doubleheader scheduled. The first game is set for 12:00 with the second shortly after.
