CHESTNUT HILLS, Mass. - The Dartmouth (22-21) softball team lost a six-inning 10-2 contest to Boston College (18-28) on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles recorded a season-high 12 hits in the win.
Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) both had two hits on the day as Clarkson had both RBIs. Kat Hicks (Templeton, Calif.) began the game in the circle, going 2.2 innings before Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) came on in relief. Amy Tunstall led the Eagles on offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in support of Allison Gage and Morgan Kidd.
Gage pitched four innings for the win, allowing five hits and one
unearned run, while Kidd pitched the final two innings, allowing one
earned run on two hits, a walk, and two strikeouts.
BC got things going early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Dartmouth cut the Eagles lead to 2-1 with an unearned run in the top
of the third inning, and threatened for more with runners on second and
third and two outs. Gleason had a two-out single and moved to second when Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) reached on an error. A single to left field by Clarkson plated Gleason to cut into the home team's lead. BC tacked on five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, batting around in the frame to break the game open. Darmouth cut the lead to 7-2 in the top of the fifth
inning on an RBI double by Clarkson, the Eagles salted the game
away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Big Green will take on Cornell University this weekend in a best-of-three series to determine the Ivy League champion.
