GALLOWAY, N.J. ? Ivy men's golf champion
Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) shot a 76 in the final round of the Northeast Regional in the 2009 NCAA Men's Division I Golf Championship. He finished tied for 41st overall with a three-day score of 230 (80-74-76), 18 strokes behind medalist Hunter Hamrick of the University of Alabama.
Williamson sank two birdies on the day, his first on the second hole and the second coming on the sixteenth, on his way to shooting five-over par for the day. For the second consecutive day, Williamson shot par on holes one through nine. He was unable to have the same result on the back nine however, shooting six-over par through the fifteenth hole before cutting a stroke on the sixteenth.
Hamrick shot a 67 on the day to finish the tournament with a score of 212 (74-71-67), edging David Holmes of the University of Tennessee (73-73-67) by one stroke. Because both individuals will advance to the NCAA finals with their respective teams, Kyle Stanley of Clemson will receive a berth as the top-individual performer of the regional. Stanley (217 ? 72-72-73) defeated John Hahn of Kent State University (217 ? 75-67-75) on the second playoff hole to qualify as the top-individual performer that is not a member of the top five teams from the regional tournament.
Alabama (874 ? 303-285-286), Tennessee (878 ? 296-287-295), Illinois (887 ? 307-288-292), Virginia (889 ? 298-291-300) and Wake Forest (890 ? 297-297-296) will advance to the NCAA finals as the top five teams from the Northeast Regional. The finals will be hosted by the University of Toledo at the Inverness Club May 26-30.
