Harper Named Ivy League Rookie of the Year
PRINCETON, N.J.—The Ivy League announced its major awards and All-Ivy teams on Wednesday for men's golf. Dartmouth's Luke Harper was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year along with being named All-Ivy Second Team. Tyler Brand earned Academic All-Ivy honors.
Harper turned in four top 10 finishes in his first season of collegiate golf. In his second career start he won the Columbia Autmn Invite as he finished -9 after three straight -3 rounds. In the Elon Phoenix Invitational he finished tied for fifth as he finished -8, he shot a -2 69 in the opening round and then fired back to back -3 68 rounds. He finished three tournaments under par this season. In his first Ivy League Tournament he finished tied for ninth at +8. While battling weather in the second round, he finished -2 at Baltusrol Golf Club which was the best round that day. He is the first Big Green golfer to be named Rookie of the Year since Jason Liu earned the honor in 2018. The Dallas, Texas native is the fourth Dartmouth golfer to earn the award.
Bill Johnson Head Coach of Men's Golf, Rich Parker was ecstatic when asked about Harper. "I could not possibly be happier and prouder that Luke was voted Ivy League Rookie of the Year by the Ivy coaches. Hard working dedicated and possibly the kindest person I've coached over my 21 years. Luke is one of those guys who is always practicing while nobody is watching."
Brand had a solid junior season as he tallied five top 15 finishes in eight starts this season. The economics major notched his best finish of the season at the Columbia Autumn Invite in which he finished tied for fourth. He finished the tournament -6 as he fired a -3 68 in the second round and a -4 67 in the third round. He carded nine rounds this season at par or under par.
