Princeton, N.J. - Steve Perry, head coach for the Dartmouth College lightweight men's crew, has been named the head sweep rowing coach of the 2009 Under 23 Women's National Team Camp.
"I'm honored to be selected to coach this team," said Perry. "The World U23 Rowing Championship is one of the great events on the rowing calendar every year and I look forward to the challenge ahead."
The U23 National Rowing Team will compete at the 2009 FISA World Under 23 Championships scheduled for July 23-26 in Racice, Czech Republic. The camp will also select an open women's 2- and 4- to compete at U23 Trials July 6-10 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
Perry, the 2007 EARC Lightweight Coach of the Year, recently finished his fourth year as head coach of the Dartmouth lightweight men.
Last summer Perry served as an assistant coach for the 2008 U23 Women's National Team that won a gold medal in the Women's Eight event at the U23 World Championships in Bradenburg, GER.
A native of Woodbridge, VA, Perry rowed four years of college lightweight rowing at Rutgers University before joining the Rutgers coaching staff as assistant lightweight rowing coach in 1999. After serving two years with the Scarlet Knights, he took the lightweight assistant position at the University of Pennsylvania in 2001. He then served as the Navy assistant lightweight coach from 2002-05, before moving on to become the head coach of lightweight crew at Dartmouth College.
