HANOVER, N.H. - With his first career hat trick, Adam Estoclet (Orono, Minn.) along with Matt Reber's five points helped the Dartmouth men's hockey team to a 9-4 victory over Brown on Friday night in Thompson Arena. Estoclet's hat trick was the first for a Dartmouth player since David Jones in 2006 and Reber's five points in a game was the first since both Oullette and Nick Johnson, also in 2005.
The victory improves the Big Green to 4-10 overall, 2-6 in the ECAC while Brown falls to 5-10-1, 3-4-1 in the league.
Adam Estoclet (Orono, Minn.) got the Big Green on the board first when the junior received an across-ice pass from Doug Jones (Marietta, Ga.). He skated down and around behind the net, swung out in front and blasted the puck glove-side past goalie Michael Clemente for the score. Andrew Owsiak (Moose Jaw, Sask.) also assisted.
Estoclet recorded another one less than three minutes later at 7:05 on the clock when Jones pulled Clemente out of the net and Evan Stephens (Bessemer, Mich.) passed back to Estoclet who had an open net to work with.
The third Dartmouth goal of the stanza came from sophomore Nick Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) who lit the lamp for his first collegiate strike at 6:15. Matt Reber (Edina, Minn.) and Scott Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.) assisted.
Despite intense pressure in the final minute of the period the Bears were not able to find an answer for the Dartmouth defense and netminder Jody O'Neill (Nepean, Ont.). The Big Green outshot the visitors, 14-5.
Starting the second period Brown changed goalies and went with Dan Rosen in net. Walsh was able to put the first goal past Rosen at 15:07 when Fleming pulled Rosen to the right and shot. The rebound came out to a waiting Walsh on the left who put it in the hole left by the netminder. Reber also assisted.
The Bears broke up O'Neill's shutout at 14:36 when Harry Zolnierczyk took a pass from Jordan Pietrus for the score.
Kyle Reeds (St. Louis, Mo.) gave the Big Green the fifth goal of the night at 5:22. Brown won the faceoff and passed down their net. Connor Goggin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) stole the puck and passed quickly to his sibling, Mark. The younger Goggin skated with Reeds, eventually passing up to the high-flying forward as Reeds blasted the puck stick-side over Rosen, skimming the top of the net and down.
After two periods of play the Big Green was outshooting the Bears, 29-14.
A hard working goal by Marc Senecal to start the third period had Brown cutting the Dartmouth lead to three at 5-2. But just 39 seconds later Fleming roofed another one past Rosen as Reber and Walsh picked up assists.
Jack Maclellan cut into the lead again with a wraparound goal at 16:48 but Reber put the lead back up to four just 36 seconds later. Walsh added another assist to his point total.
That seventh goal knocked Rosen out as Clemente came back in to finish the contest. With under 6:00 to play Stephens, Reber and Reeds teamed up for the Big Green's first shorthanded goal of the season as Dartmouth increased its lead to 8-3.
Zolnierczyk cut into the home team's lead again with a power play goal with under 4:00 to play. Estoclet recorded his third of the night at 2:09 off assists by Connor Goggin and Dan Markowitz (Jericho, N.Y.) as the Big Green had it's highest goal total of the season.
Dartmouth will be back in action on Sunday at 4:00 against ECAC rival, Yale.
