CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 13 Boston University garnered goals from four different players to defeat the Dartmouth field hockey team, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. With the win, the Terriers improved to 9-4 while the Big Green dropped to 8-3 on the season.
The Terriers and Big Green exchanged first-half goals before BU
scored three unanswered markers in the second frame. The Terriers
outshot Dartmouth, 21-6, and netted two goals off five penalty corners.
Dartmouth evened the game, 1-1, off a penalty corner in the sixth
minute with a goal from junior Kelly Hood (Berlin, Hood). Senior Virgina Peisch (
Koenigstein, Germany) put the
ball into play, where it was set by senior Kelly McHenry (Williamsburg, Va.) at the top of
the circle. Hood then shot the ball high to the right of goalie Amanda Smith.
Unfortunately the Big Green could not hold onto the momentum as the Terriers proceeded to score the only goals in the second half en route to the win.
Hood tallied the most shots for the visiting team with three. In goal Meagan Vakiener (Port Henry, N.J.) played the full game with eight saves. Smith had three saves for BU.
Dartmouth will return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 12) in a 3:00 pm non conference tilt with UMass at Chase Field. On Saturday (Oct. 16), the Big Green will take on Yale in Ivy League action.
