HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth men's basketball coach Paul Cormier today announced his finalized schedule, which includes a trip to the state of Iowa, showdowns with a pair of local rivals and a game at a Big East squad to start the year, along with the usual Ivy League slate.
Cormier, in his first year back at the helm of the Big Green program, gets a challenge right off the bat when he takes his squad to Rhode Island to square off against Providence College of the Big East on Saturday, Nov. 13. Dartmouth is 9-6 all time against the Friars, but has only played PC three times in the last 60 years.
The home opener takes place next against in-state rival New Hampshire on Tuesday, Nov. 16, one of just four non-conference home games for the Green this winter. The others will feature Quinnipiac, Colgate and Army.
The first day of December brings a road game at 2010 NCAA participant Vermont, the 95th time the two schools will meet on the hardwood. After exams, Dartmouth will host Army before embarking on a five-game road trip, two coming in the corn belt of Iowa. On Dec. 19, Iowa State of the Big 12 will host the Green, and two days later Drake will do the same. In contrast to the long-running series against Vermont, Dartmouth has never played either Iowa school.
The 2010 calendar year ends with a game at Bucknell — which won NCAA Tournament games in both 2005 and 2006 — on Dec. 30, then Dartmouth rings in the new year with a return trip to Army.
Ivy League play begins as it has every year for the past 24 seasons with a match-up against Harvard. The Big Green will host the Crimson on Jan. 8 before traveling to Cambridge two weeks later with a road game at Colgate sandwiched between the two. Dartmouth fans will get a chance to see the Big Red of Cornell, a Sweet 16 team last year, on Friday, Jan. 28. The season will come to a close during the first weekend of March when perennial Ivy powers Penn and Princeton come to Leede Arena.
Official practice will begin next weekend. To purchase tickets for the upcoming season, contact the Dartmouth ticket office at 603-646-2466. Tickets will also be available online at DartmouthSports.com as the season draws closer.
