PRINCETON, N.J. — Defenseman Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) willed the Dartmouth women's hockey team to a 3-2 overtime victory at Princeton on Friday. Nanji scored all of the Big Green's goals, and recorded her first career hat trick. The win improved Dartmouth to 4-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the ECAC. The Tigers fell to 3-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the conference.
It didn't look promising for the Big Green with under two minutes remaining in the contest. The Tigers held a 2-1 advantage and looked to run out the clock. Nanji scored the game-tying goal with 1:36 remaining in the third period off assists from Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) and Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.). The two teams both tried to end the game in regulation but couldn't find the game winner.
In overtime, the sophomore struck for the third time, 2:11 into the first overtime. Off a pass from senior captain Katie Horner (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Nanji put the game winner past Princeton goaltender Rachel Webber to end the contest.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first period, then Nanji scored the first goal of the game in the fifth minute of the second. Princeton responded with two goals in the second frame. Alex Kinney scored her second goal of the season halfway through the period, and Denna Laing scored her third goal of the year with less than two minutes remaining in the session.
The Big Green outshot the Tigers, 29-23 in the contest, and committed less penalties, 3-4. Freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the victory in net for Dartmouth, making 21 saves. The hat trick marked Nanji's third, fourth and fifth goals of the season. She now leads the team in points with seven.
Dartmouth plays another ECAC foe when it travels to Quinnipiac on Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest.
