HANOVER, N.H. — The ninth-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey team suffered its first home loss of the season on Saturday with Harvard leaving Thompson Arena with a 3-2 victory. It drops the Big Green to 6-3-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the ECAC. The Crimson improve to 4-2-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the conference.
Dartmouth held a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period, but Harvard scored two goals in the final period to earn the victory. In the fourth minute of the third, Alisa Baumgartner netted a goal after she slipped it passed goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Baumgartner took advantage of congestion in front of the net and a nice pass from Ashley Wheeler.
The two teams remained tied at two for over 16 minutes before Jillian Dempsey scored the game-winning goal, her second score of the contest, with 2:06 remaining in the game. Leanna Coskren fired the puck from the far right side of the ice to the left side, where Dempsey flicked a quick shot into the net. Dartmouth pulled its goaltender late in hopes of scoring the tying goal, but it wasn't enough.
The Big Green scored the first goal of the game in the first period on junior Moira Scanlon's (Chicago, Ill.) second goal of the season. Harvard tied the game seven minutes into the second on a shorthanded goal by Dempsey. Dartmouth scored its second goal with six minutes to go in the period when Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) scored her fifth goal of the year.
Dartmouth held the advantage in shots, 30-17, but once again allowed a shorthanded goal. It is the second time in three games the opposition has scored down a player. It also marks the first two-game losing streak of the season for the team.
The Big Green look to get back to winning on Wednesday, November 24, at Boston College at 7 p.m.
