Scott, Shipley Chosen for Academic All-District Football Team

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth seniors Tanner Scott (Kenilworth, Ill.) and Lane Shipley (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) were both named to the ESPN Academic All-District I University Division football team as voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Scott and Shipley are two of the 13 Ivy Leaguers named to an all-district squad this year.

Scott is an economics major with a 3.83 cumulative grade point average. The 6-4, 195-pound wide receiver has caught 15 passes this season for 177 yards (11.8-yard average), with 12 of those receptions going for first downs. In six of the seven Big Green games to date, he has caught at least one pass, one of which was a 16-yarder on a key 3rd-and-10 play during the game-winning drive at Columbia late in the fourth quarter. A walk-on in the spring of his freshman year, Scott burst on the scene last year for Dartmouth, leading the team with 45 receptions for 510 yards with a pair of 100-yard games. Scott also was one of the 55 named to the FCS Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team in 2009 and earned All-Ivy honorable mention as well, and this year was a preseason All-Ivy selection and chosen as a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy.

Shipley, a history major with a 3.48 cumulate grade point average, is a key defensive tackle for the Big Green, having played in all but two games over the past three seasons. This year the 6-2, 280-pound lineman has 10 tackles, seven of which are solo stops, with a tackle for a loss and one pass broken up. A career-high seven of those tackles came against Dartmouth's most highly regarded opponent, nationally ranked Penn, as the Big Green nearly pulled off the upset on the road against the Quakers before falling in overtime.

To be considered for inclusion on one of the academic all-district teams, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or older, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's games as a starter or key reserve. The duo now go onto the national ballot for Academic All-America honors with the first-teamers from the eight districts around the country. The Academic All-America teams will be announced on Nov. 23.
