After two scoreless frames, the Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the third. A two-out single followed by a double, scored one. Then another single plated the remaining runner to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
The Big Green answered with a run of its own in the top of the fourth as Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif.) started things off with a single. She was moved to second off a sacrifice bunt by Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) and then moved to third when Noelle Ramirez (Pompton Plains, N.J.) reached base due to an error at third. A single by Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) plated Yee as Ramirez rounded third and was gunned down at home. Dartmouth left the bases loaded as the Eagles defense prevented any further damage.
FGCU broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning, sending 10 batters to the plate giving the Blue and Green a 7-1 advantage, which would be the final score.
Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) went the complete game for Dartmouth. She struck out two and is now 1-5 on the season. For the home team, Catherine McDaniel mproving to 6-9 with a complete game effort. McDaniel allowed one run on five hits, walking two and striking out five.
Yee was 2-for-4 while Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.), Clarkson and Kirsten Costello (Windsor, N.Y.) each had one hit apiece.
In the second game, a double by the Eagles scored the first run in the bottom of the first.
The score held at 1-0 until the fourth inning, when the Eagles sent eight batters to the plate, scoring four times. FGCU tacked on another run on a throwing error, extending the lead to 5-0.
Dartmouth had a chance to get on the board in the third when Costello doubled to left field but would stay on base. The Big Green did not record another hit until the sixth inning when Costello singled to second and moved over on an illegal pitch. A two-out walk to Hubert gave Dartmouth its best chance of the game but a ground out ended the inning.
In the seventh with the Big Green down its last three outs, Clarkson began the inning reaching first on an error and advancing to second. Hubert was walked to give Dartmouth two runners on. A double play out to Parker also got Clarkson as she tried to move to third. Another ground out ended the inning and the game as FGCU came away with the 5-0 victory.
FGCU's pitching tandem of Kelci Breaux and Stephanie Sullivan kept the Big Green off of the scoreboard for the final three frames, finishing off the shutout in a 5-0 victory.
Rookie Evan Gray (Edmond, Okla.) went the complete game for Dartmouth. She allowed four earned runs while striking out three batters.
Costello's two hits in the game were the only ones recorded for the Big Green.
Dartmouth wraps up its spring break trip with a game at the University of South Florida on Wednesday. Game time for the contest is slated for 5:00 pm.
