CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Freshman Xander Centenari (Towson, Md.) won at number five singles in straight sets, but the Big Green lost 6-1 at Harvard on Wednesday afternoon in the season finale. The Big Green finish the season with an 11-11 overall record and 2-5 in the Ivy League, while Harvard finished the year 14-10 and 5-2 in the conference.
It was a tough day for the Green despite the great start by the No. 1 doubles team of senior
Dan Freeman (Chatsworth, Calif.) and sophomore
Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) coming out strong, trimming the Crimson at the top spot. Unfortunately, we could not secure the point dropping both No. 2 and No. 3 in close matches.
In singles, Centenari (5-2 in league play) was the lone winner playing No. 5 today. Junior
Stephen Greif (San Antonio, Texas) was unable to play singles because of a nagging injury and junior co-captain
Curtis Roby (New York, N.Y.) then put forth a valiant effort at No. 3. Senior co-captain
Jeff Friedman (Westport, Conn.) jumped into a starting role at No. 6 and almost got the Big Green a second point, losing the second set in a breaker.
This was the last match of the season for Darmouth. It was a solid 11-11 performance for a young team that worked extremely hard and improved greatly along the way. They made some real progress in their Ivy quest as well, a 2-5 Ivy record with a 14-7 in home singles and doubles competition record in the Ivies.
