PRINCETON, N.J. – Dartmouth (3-17, 2-2 Ivy) softball recorded its first Ivy sweep of the season, taking a 10-inning 5-2 victory over Princeton (6-21, 0-4 Ivy) in the first game on Saturday before following it up with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.
Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill.) was the best player for both sides in Game One as the junior went 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Senior Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. In the circle, Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) now has both wins for the Big Green. She went the complete game with a season-high eight strikeouts.
The Tigers took the early lead at the end of the opening frame but in the second Dartmouth tied the contest after Autin knocked the fourth of the Big Green's singles in the inning, scoring Kolodziej. A homerun by the home team in the third gave Princeton the lead back.
That one-run lead held until the sixth when Dartmouth's Molly Khalil (Seal Beach, Calif.) got the homer back with one of her own to tie the game at 2-2. Despite hits by both sides through the next several innings, the contest went into extra innings.
The Big Green began the tenth with a walk to Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.). Meghan Everett (Flemington, N.J.) came on to run for Clarkson as she advanced to second on a wild pitch. Khalil ground out to short but Everett moved to third. Kolodziej singled to right field to bring Everett home to break the tie and give Dartmouth it's first lead of the game. Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) reached base on a fielding error as Kolodziej went to third. A double to right field by Autin, plated both runners.
The Tigers got a baserunner in the bottom half of the inning but the Big Green defense held Princeton off the scoreboard for the 5-2 victory.
In the nightcap Dartmouth didn't wait until extra innings to push key runs across, scoring two in the seventh inning to break the tie and get a 6-4 win.
A two-run double by Autin in the second inning gave Dartmouth a 2-0 lead in the second inning before a home run by Princeton's school leader Jamie in the third-inning halved the lead. Another long bomb by by the Big Green's Noelle Ramirez (Pompton Plains, N.J.) was one of two runs Dartmouth scored in the fourth and fifth innings to pull ahead 4-1, but the Tigers had a comeback in store.
A two-run double followed by an RBI-single, all with two out in the fifth, enabled the home team to tie the game at 4-4.
The Tigers had a chance to go ahead in the sixth, getting two singles and a hit batter before there were two out, but a force at home and a groundout ended the threat and kept the game tied.
Khalil's second home run of the day and a run-scoring hit by Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif.) gave Dartmouth its final two runs, as the Tigers had just a walk in the seventh as the Big Green completed the sweep.
Yee, Kolodziej, Costello and Autin all had two hits for Dartmouth with Kolodziej leading the team with two runs as Autin led with two RBIs. In the circle Evan Gray (Edmond, Okla.) went 5.1 innings with four runs and one strikeout. Kat Hicks (Templeton, Calif.) came on in relief, going 1.2 innings, striking out two.
Dartmouth will travel to Sacred Heart on Wednesday for a doubleheader that starts at 3:00 p.m.
