HANOVER, NH – The Dartmouth men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2010 Ivy League season with a 5-2 defeat of Penn this evening at the Boss Tennis Center.
The Big Green led off with some great doubles play, dominating Penn at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The two wins put Dartmouth up 1-0 in the team score. Senior
Dan Freeman (Chatsworth, Calif.) and sophomore
Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) won, 8-4, at the top spot, while sophomore
Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) and freshman
Alex de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif.) took the victory at the third position.
The singles play was a bit tougher with the two teams splitting the first sets. Laser brought home the first singles victory at the No. 2 spot with a straight set win. Freeman fought back from a one-set deficit to win 6-0 in the third putting Dartmouth on the verge of the upset win. Freshman
Xander Centenari (Towson, Md.) put the Big Green in the win column with a 7-6, 6-4, win at No. 6. Junior captain
Curtis Roby (New York, N.Y.) followed with a long hard fought match at the fifth position to bring Dartmouth a 5-2 win over the Quakers.
The Big Green will be back at the Boss Tennis Center tomorrow at 2 p.m. as Dartmouth takes on Princeton.
