Hanover -- Dartmouth's first football practices of the 2010 season have been filled with questions by sideline observers. Where's that new quarterback from New York City? Which of the two guys wearing No. 80 is a tight end? Is that short, squat kid practicing at both fullback and linebacker?
Although he wasn't on the team last season, Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor's identity is crystal clear. He's the one with black dreadlocks pouring out from under his helmet. The short receiver who's also a sprinter on the Big Green track team and who displays his speed on deep routes that leave cornerbacks gasping.
“He's got some shake and wiggle and we need guys to help us out at running deep down the field,” said Dartmouth receivers coach Jarrail Jackson. “He's been doing a good job working on his hands.”
Abdul-Shakoor, who's about to enter his fifth school year at Dartmouth and his first at the Thayer School of Engineering, played defensive back his first three years on campus. A bit overwhelmed by his studies, he left the team after the 2008 season, surprising head coach Buddy Teevens.
