HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team used the first career shutout of freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and four points from junior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) to beat UConn, 5-0, at Thompson Arena on Sunday. The win was the second straight for the Big Green and improved the squad to 8-5-0 overall. The loss dropped the Huskies to 7-12-1.
Holdcroft made timely saves for Dartmouth, earning the shutout in her eighth career game. She made 16 saves, recording at least five in each period. She improved her season record to 5-3-0.
Neither team scored in the first period and it took almost 18 minutes into the second before the Big Green got on the scoreboard. Junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) recorded her sixth goal of the season off assists from Fischer and junior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.). In the third period, Dartmouth created separation by scoring four goals. Hobeika scored 6:47 into the third period, and senior Alyssa Boehm (Waterford, Conn.) added her first goal of the season 19 seconds later.
With 9:36 remaining in the contest, Hobeika scored her second goal of the night and her third of the season off assists from Lisa Berreman (Eagan, Minn.) and Fischer. Just 24 seconds later, Fischer scored her fourth goal of the season. It was her fourth point of the night after tallying three assists on previous goals. The starting front line for Dartmouth (Foley, Fischer and Hobeika) accounted for four goals, seven assists and 11 points.
Dartmouth goes back out on the road when it plays at RPI on Friday, Jan. 7 and at Union on Saturday, Jan. 8.
