The Dartmouth College men's soccer team (4-4-2) continues Ivy League road
action with a match at Penn on Saturday (Oct. 15). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
at Penn's Rhodes Field. The game is the second of a doubleheader with the
Dartmouth women's team who are taking on the Penn women at 5:00 p.m.
BIG GREEN TIDBITS
Heffron Stepping Up - On the heels of his first collegiate goal against Princeton (Oct. 1), freshman midfielder Colin Heffron (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) has been playing very good soccer. Heffron has started each of Dartmouth's last eight games and over the last four games has tallied four points (1 goal, 2 assists).
Approaching 500 Program Wins - The Big Green men's soccer program is approaching its 500th program victory. Currently, the Big Green has an all-time record of 499-447-109 and is just one win away from the 500-win mark. The Big Green will go for program win No. 500 against Penn on Saturday (Oct. 15).
Cook Approaching 100 Wins -- Head coach Jeff Cook entered the 2011 season with 89 career wins as Dartmouth head coach and is poised to become just the second coach in Dartmouth men's soccer history to reach the 100-win plateau. Thomas Dent, Dartmouth's longest tenured coach, is Dartmouth's all-time winningest coach with 143 career wins in 35 years. After a win over Princeton, Cook is sitting at 96 all-time wins at Dartmouth. The earliest, Cook can reach the 100-win mark is against Colgate on Oct. 25.
Big Green Players in the Ivy League Rankings - Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and junior midfielder Kevin Dzierzawski (Oakland Township, Mich.) are both ranked in the Ivy League rankings. Mkosana is No. 2 in shots per game (4.30), points per game (1.50), goals (7) and goals per game (0.70). Dzierzawski is tied for No. 4 in game winning goals (2) and assists per game (0.40). Additionally, sophomore goalkeeper Noah Cohen (Johannesburg, South Africa) is ranked No. 2 in saves (39), saves per game (3.90), shutouts (3.0) and is No. 4 in save percentage (.736), No. 6 in goals against average (1.34).
Lucky in the National Ranks - Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) has climbed into the national rankings in several categories. He is currently ranked No. 19 in goals per game (0.70), No. 27 in total goals (7) and No. 30 in points per game (1.50)
Streaks Stopped at Yale - The Big Green had several streaks stopped in its loss at Yale. Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) had his four-game scoring streak snapped and Dartmouth's three-game win streak was also snapped. Additionally, Dartmouth dropped its first Ivy League game in its last five tries dating back to last season. Prior to the Yale game, Mkosana had scored in six of Dartmouth's last eight games.
Hitting the Road Again - Dartmouth, which plays on the road this week at Penn, has been on the road for its last two contests. This season the Big Green won't play more than two consecutive games away from Burnham Field.
Scoreless - Dartmouth's 2-0 loss to Yale (Oct. 8) marked the third time this season the Big Green was held scoreless. Dartmouth failed to score goals in a 2-0 loss to Boston College and in a 0-0 double overtime tie at Holy Cross.
Mkosana Moving Up the Charts - Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) is moving up the all-time scoring charts in his senior campaign. He currently sits at No. 2 on Dartmouth's all-time scoring list with 31 career goals and his 15 points this season place him No. 2 on Dartmouth's all-time points list with 72 career points. Mkosana is on pace to become Dartmouth's all-time scoring leader as well as Dartmouth's all-time points leader.
Captain My Captain - Seniors Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and Nick Pappas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) have been named captains this season. The duo will wear the captain's armband for the Big Green throughout the season.
Looking at Penn - Penn enters Saturday's game with a 6-4-2, 1-1-0 Ivy League record after playing to a 1-1 double overtime draw with Lehigh in non-conference action on Tuesday (Oct. 11). This will be the 60th meeting between the Quakers and Big Green. Penn holds a 30-20-9 series advantage and took last season's game 1-0 in Hanover. Dartmouth has won three of the last five meetings between the teams. Duke Lacroix leads the Quakers with 14 points (5 goals, 4 assists). Christian Barrerio is the second leading scorer with 12 points. Lacroix and Barrerio each have five goals. Barrerio has four assists and Lacroix has two assists. Max Kutzmann leads the defense and in 12 games owns a 6-4-2 record with two shutouts. He also boasts a 1.05 goals against average and has made 36 saves on the season.
