The Dartmouth College men's soccer team (3-3-2) concludes its three-game
homestand when it hosts regional rival, Vermont, on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at 7:00
p.m. The Big Green will then hit the road for an afternoon tilt with Ivy League
foe, Yale on Saturday (Oct. 8). Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at Yale's Reese
Stadium.
BIG GREEN TIDBITS
Burnham Magic - The Dartmouth men's soccer team will conclude its three-game homestand with a non-conference game with Vermont on Tuesday (Oct. 4). The Big Green own a 31-7-4 all-time record at Burnham Field and this season have scored 11 goals on its home field this season. Dartmouth is 3-1-1 at Burnham this season.
One Streak Ends and One Streak Continues - With Dartmouth's 4-1 win over defending Ivy League champion, Princeton, on Saturday (Oct. 1) the Big Green ended Princeton's 12 game Ivy League unbeaten streak. While ending Princeton's streak, the Big Green extended its own, picking up its fourth consecutive Ivy League victory, dating back to last season.
Mkosana is Streakin' - Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) has the hot foot this season and with his two goals against Princeton has extended his scoring streak to three consecutive games. Mkosana has scored goals in five of Dartmouth's last six games.
Heffron Notches First Collegiate Goal - Freshman midfielder Colin Heffron (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) has made his presence felt on the offensive end as of late. The freshman picked up his first collegiate goal against Princeton (Oct. 1) and added an assist against the Tigers. Heffron has started each of Dartmouth's last six games and over the last two games has tallied four points with one goal and two assists.
Ivy League Road Opener - Dartmouth is looking for its first Ivy League road-opening win since the 2009 season when they defeated Yale, 2-1 in overtime. In the last six seasons, the Big Green have played three Ivy road openers that have been decided by one goal and have played to two ties. Dartmouth has played Yale in the Ivy League road opener three times in the last six seasons with two wins and a tie.
Mkosana Moving Up the Charts - Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) is moving up the all-time scoring charts in his senior campaign. With his two goals against Princeton in Dartmouth's last outing, Mkosana moves into a tie for No. 2 on Dartmouth's all-time scoring list with 30 career goals. Additionally, his 13 points thus far have moved him into No. 2 on Dartmouth's all-time points list with 70 points. Mkosana is on pace to become Dartmouth's all-time scoring leader as well as Dartmouth's all-time points leader.
Big Green Offense Comes Alive - The Dartmouth offense came alive against Princeton (Oct. 1). The Big Green offense exploded for a season-high four goals in a win over the defending Ivy League champion, Tigers. Prior to the Princeton game, each of Dartmouth's last three games had been decided by one goal.
Captain My Captain - Seniors Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and Nick Pappas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) have been named captains this season. The duo will wear the captain's armband for the Big Green throughout the season.
Cook Approaching 100 Wins -- Head coach Jeff Cook entered the 2011 season with 89 career wins as Dartmouth head coach and is poised to become just the second coach in Dartmouth men's soccer history to reach the 100-win plateau. Thomas Dent, Dartmouth's longest tenured coach, is Dartmouth's all-time winningest coach with 143 career wins in 35 years. After a win over South Carolina, Cook is sitting at 92 all-time wins at Dartmouth.
Big Green Heads Towards 500 Program Victories - The Big Green men's soccer program is approaching its 500th program victory. Currently, the Big Green has an all-time record of 498-446-109 and is just two wins away from the 500-win mark. The earliest the Big Green can reach the milestone would be on Oct. 8 when they take on Yale in New Haven, Conn.
Looking at Vermont - Vermont enters Tuesday's game with a 6-3-0, 1-0-0 America East record after defeating Binghamton, 3-0, on Saturday (Oct. 1). Tuesday's meeting will be the 37th meeting between the regional rivals and is Vermont's final non-conference game of the season. Dartmouth owns an 18-13-5 series advantage and has won each of the last two meetings between the squads. Yannick Lewis leads the Catamount offense with four goals while David Ramada leads the defense with a 6-3-0 record and a 0.67 goals against average. Additionally, Ramada has six shutouts this season.
A Glance At Yale - The Bulldogs enter Saturday's game with a (5-4-1, 1-0-0 Ivy League) record after defeating Harvard in their Ivy League opener on Saturday (Oct. 1). Yale leads the series 37-31-6, but the Big Green has won the last three meetings, including a 3-1 win at Burnham Field last season. Yale has a 4-1-0 record at Reese Stadium this season. Peter Jacobson leads the Yale offense with four goals while Chris Dennen has four assists. Brad Rose and Jenner Fox have also each tallied three goals on the season. Bobby Thalman leads the defense with a 0.87 goals against average and 57 saves on the season.
