HANOVER, N.H. — For the second time this season, Dartmouth freshman
Gabas Maldunas (Panevezys, Lithuania) was selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week the league announced today. In the five weeks to date of the 2011-12 season, a Big Green player has been chosen three times, with the other honor going to freshman
Jvonte Brooks (Santee, Calif.) following the first contest of the year at Rutgers.
Dartmouth had a 10-day lay-off for final exams before tipping off again on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Notre Dame. While the Fighting Irish defeated the Big Green, 65-47, Maldunas led Dartmouth with 12 points and nine rebounds, just one carom shy of his second career double-double. The 6-8 forward knocked down 5-of-12 from the floor and both of his foul shots, blocked one shot and made one steal in 28 minutes on the floor. It was the second straight game in which Maldunas was the lone Big Green player to score in double figures.
For the season, Maldunas is Dartmouth's second-leading scorer at 10.1 points per game, and is tied with Brooks as the team's top rebounder (5.5). He is fourth in the conference in both field goal percentage (.548 — 34-of-62) and 1.25 blocks per game (10 total).
Dartmouth (2-6) finishes up a two-game trip to Indiana on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at IPFW (5-3) at 7 p.m.
