HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth freshman Jvonte Brooks was announced as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week by the conference office on Monday, marking the second time this season the forward has earned the award. In the first seven weeks of the season, three Big Green freshmen have either shared or won the honor outright — Brooks twice, Gabas Maldunas twice and John Golden once.
Brooks, a native of Santee, Calif., averaged 12.0 points and 9.3 rebounds over the three games during the week before Christmas, all coming on the road. He first registered his second double-double of the season with a dozen points and a personal-best 12 rebounds in a 61-55 overtime loss at Colgate. Two nights later, he contributed 13 points, equaling a season high, while snagging eight boards in another close game, this time a three-point loss at Army. Finally, he scored 11 points and hauled in eight rebounds in an 82-74 defeat at Albany on Friday.
For the three games, Brooks shot 60.0 percent (12-of-20) from the floor and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) at the foul line while averaging 30.0 minutes of action. For the season, the freshman is scoring 7.3 points per game and ranks eighth in the Ivy League at 6.3 rebounds per game.
Dartmouth (3-10), which has played just three home games thus far, has four of its next five games on its home court of Leede Arena, beginning with a contest against visiting Holy Cross (5-7) on New Year's Eve at 2 p.m. Fans can watch the game online through the Big Green Insider on DartmouthSports.com, the official website of Dartmouth varsity athletics, or simply listen to Dave Collins call the action on the site.
