HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's tennis team's four-match winning streak was stopped by Boston College Sunday, who prevailed 5-2 over the Big Green at the Boss Tennis Center. The Eagles were hot off a 4-3 victory over No. 63 Purdue on Saturday. Dartmouth dropped to 6-5 overall while Boston College improved to 6-3.
Dartmouth was edged 2-1 in the doubles. Senior tri-captain
Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.) and freshman
Melissa Matsuoka (Newport Beach, Calif.) won at No. 1, while the No. 2 team of senior tri-captains
Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and
Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) fell at No. 2. Sophomores
Christina Danosi (New Albany, Ohio) and
Jeri Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) battled back from a 7-2 deficit, but were ultimately stopped 8-5.
In singles, Scott won in three sets at No. 1 over Alex Kelleher, while Matsuoka led Katarina Gajic 7-5, 0-3 at No. 3 before Gajic was forced to retire with an injury. At No. 2 sophomore
Sarah Leonard (Norwalk, Conn.) was edged 11-9 in a third set super-breaker by Erina Kikuchi, who was a seminfinalist at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships in October.
Dartmouth returns to action on March 17 in California against Bowdoin.
