HANOVER, N.H. — In hockey, sometimes a team runs into a goaltender that is on a hot streak, and that was the case on Friday at Thompson Arena. The Dartmouth women's hockey team took 35 shots, but did not score in a 4-0 loss against Quinnipiac. The Big Green dropped to 14-9-0 overall and 10-7-0 in the ECAC. The Bobcats improved to 18-9-1 overall and 10-7-0 in the conference.
Quinnipiac's Victoria Vigilanti controlled the contest by stopping shot after shot from Dartmouth. The sophomore goaltender made 35 saves and recorded her seventh shutout of the season in the victory. The Big Green were taking good shots, but Vigilanti was there to make the save every time.
The Bobcats built upon the strong game of Vigilanti by scoring four goals, including two by freshman Kelly Babstock. Babstock two goals brought her season total to 24 on the season. Felica Vieweg and Kate Wheeler each added a goal.
Neither team scored in the first period before Quinnipiac scored two goals in the second. Both of the Bobcats goals in the period came on the power play, including a goal with the Big Green down two skaters. In the third, Quinnipiac added a third goal three minutes into the period, and scored the final goal shorthanded after the Big Green pulled freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) to gain a six-to-three advantage.
Senior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) led the Big Green with seven shots. Junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) was second with six. The Bobcats took 29 shots in the game with Holdcroft making 25 saves. The Big Green committed five penalties for 13 minutes, while Quinnipiac committed five for 10 minutes.
Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Princeton at 4 p.m.
