NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Molly Khalil helped the Dartmouth softball team tally 11 runs in an offensive explosive that gave the Big Green a doubleheader victory over Yale at Dewitt Family Field on a blustery Saturday afternoon. Dartmouth (13-14, 6-4) won the first game 2-1 and then took the nightcap 9-1 in six innings. Khalil was 4-for-6 on the day.
A stiff wind that was blowing in may have played somewhat of a role in the opener as the two sides were unable to put any runs across through the first three innings but Khalil was able to break the scoreless tie by belting a two-run homer in the fourth inning to put the Big Green on the board first.
Yale (13-17, 5-5 Ivy) got one back in the fifth after leading off with back-to-back doubles. Two long balls by the Bulldogs looked like they were going out but Audrey Kolodziej and Meghan Everett made catches to keep Yale from tallying any more runs.
The Big Green had just three hits in the game as Noelle Ramirez tallied the other hit for Dartmouth. The Bulldogs outhit the visitors, 6-3 and five different players hit Big Green pitcher Hillary Barker. Barker started in the circle and went the complete game with five strikeouts. She is now 7-4 on the season.
Three Yale errors helped the Big Green score four times in the first inning of the second game. Kolodziej started things off with a double to left field and then moved to third on a wild pitch. An error at right field allowed Kolodziej to score as Britta McOmber moved to third and Noelle Ramirez went to second. A double steal by Ramirez and McOmber plated one more for the Big Green before Khalil belted a double to left center, allowing Ramirez to come home. A throwing error at short had Kat Hicks reaching first and then moving to second on a ground out. Hicks and Khalil both scored on an error by third base and despite having two runners on, Dartmouth was unable to put any more across.
Three more runs in the third gave the Big Green a 7-0 lead. Two straight singles by Barker and Alex St. Romain had runners on as Everett reached on a fielders choice to load the bases. A double to right center by McOmber scored all three runs for the visitors.
The Bulldogs scored their run in the third when Kelsey Warkentine and Jennifer Ong both doubled.
Kolodziej put up a triple in the fifth and then scored on a Ramirez single before Jonele Conceicao plated one more in the top of the sixth to account for all the scoring for the Big Green.
Kolodziej led the team with three hits while Khalil and Barker each had two. Dartmouth put up 11 hits to Yale's four in the second contest. McOmber was the main playmaker on the day for the Big Green as she brought four of the nine runs in.
In the circle Evan Gray allowed only four hits in six innings while striking out two. It was her sixth complete game of the season as she's now 4-7 on the year.
The same two teams will square off again on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m.
