ITHACA, N.Y. — Singles victories from senior tri-captains
Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.) and
Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas), sophomore
Sarah Leonard (Norwalk, Conn.), and freshman
Melissa Matsuoka (Newport Beach, Calif.) helped the Dartmouth women's tennis team notch its second Ivy League road victory this weekend with the Big Green beating Cornell, 4-3. Dartmouth moves to 10-7 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League, while Cornell falls to 8-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
For the second straight day, Dartmouth got into an early hole by dropping the doubles point, 2-1. Scott and Matsuoka won Dartmouth's lone point with an 8-4 victory at first doubles over Shannon and Kelly Comolli.
The Big Green quickly rebounded in singles as Scott, Leonard, and Matsuoka all won in straight sets to put Dartmouth up 3-1. Senior tri-captain
Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) then fell 6-4, 7-5 to Kelly Comolli at No. 4, and Smyser put the final point on the board for the Big Green with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Ruxandra Dumutrescu. With the match clinched 4-2, sophomore
Christina Danosi (New Albany, Ohio) dropped the final match in a third set tiebreaker at sixth singles.
Dartmouth returns to action at home against Princeton on Saturday, April 9, at 12 p.m.
