HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team nearly pulled off another dramatic comeback but fell just short against Harvard on Wednesday in a 4-3 loss at the Boss Tennis Center. The loss dropped the Big Green to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in the Ivy League.
Dartmouth swept all three doubles matches to gain a 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Xander Centenari (Towson, Md.) pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 beating of his opponent at second singles. Harvard got back on the board with a win at first singles. The match would go back and forth for another two hours with the total match time being close to five hours long.
Harvard would take a 3-2 lead with three
set wins at fifth and sixth singles. Junior Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) evened the score at 3-3
with a tremendous comeback against his giant serving Harvard opponent.
Senior Curtis Roby (New York, N.Y.) was down 4-1 in the third before fighting his way back to
even the score at 4-4. However, despite a courageous effort from Roby,
Harvard's Alistair Felton won 6-4 in the third to give Harvard the win.
It marked senior day for three departing Big Green athletes: Roby, Stephen Greif (San Antonio, Texas) and Bryan Song (Hoover, Ala.). Dartmouth ends the season tied for third place in the conference.
