CHESTNUT HILLS, Mass. – The Dartmouth College softball team was defeated in both games of a doubleheader against Boston College, 7-2 and 5-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Shea Field in the Big Green's last non-conference games of the season.
In the opening game, Dartmouth did not get on the board until the top of the seventh. Noelle Ramirez singled through the right side followed by an infield hit by Molly Khalil. Kat Hicks reached on an error and then advanced to second on the throw, as Ramirez scored. A groundout by Hillary Barker tallied the final run of the frame.
The Eagles opened the game up with two runs in the first, one in the third and one in the fourth and then three in the fifth. BC scored seven runs on eight hits with one homerun in the contest.
Ramirez and Khalil each tallied two hits in the contest while Barker took the loss in the circle. She went the full game with six earned runs and five strikeouts. Gemma Ypparila was the only player for the home team to have multiple hits as she went 2-for-4. Allison Gage got the win as she allowed no runs on three hits. Nicole D'Argento came on in relief and gave up the two lone Dartmouth runs.
In the second game, Boston College again took an early lead with five runs through the first four innings. Dartmouth got one back in the fifth when Meghan Everett singled through the right side to plate one.
The Big Green added two more in the seventh but that was the all the scoring the visitors could get. Katie Adams walked to start the inning off before Everett hit a two-out single. Audrey Kolodziej doubled down the left field line to score both runners.
Everett was the only Dartmouth player to have multiple-hits as she went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Evan Gray went the full game in the circle for the Big Green and picked up the loss. She allowed five earned runs with five strikeouts.
D'Argento went 3-for-3 while Lizzy Ploen was 2-for-2 for Boston College. Amanda Horowitz got the win for the Eagles with one earned run and four strikeouts.
Dartmouth will be back in action this weekend with two doubleheaders against travel partner, Harvard. The Crimson travel to Sachem Field on Saturday, game time at 2 p.m. The Big Green heads back to Boston on Sunday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
