BLOOMINGTON, IND. — On the final day of the Division I Women's Outdoor Track and Field NCAA East Regional Preliminaries, Dartmouth freshman Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) qualified for the NCAA Championship Meet in the 5,000 meters.
The race consisted of two heats with the top five in each heat advancing to the NCAA Championship along with the next two fastest times. D'Agostino competed in the second heat and was third in her race at 15:59.89. She crushed the school record, which was previously held by Jenna Rodgers '98 at 16:12.33.
D'Agostino had the third fastest time out of both heats, finishing behind athletes from Georgetown, North Carolina, Michigan State and Richmond. Emily Infeld of Georgetown had the best time at 15:55.50.
The NCAA Championships are in Des Moines, Iowa on June 8-11. The 5,000 meters will take place on Friday, June 10 at 8:10 p.m. Central time, and will feature the 12 qualifiers from the East Regional and 12 qualifiers from the West Regional.
D'Agostino won the 5,000 meters at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on May 8 with a time of 16:46.00 to earn first team All-Ivy.
