Big Green Closes Road Swing at Marquette

The Big Green women's basketball team takes to the road for one final game before breaking for the holidays. Dartmouth travels to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on Marquette out of the Big East on Thursday (Dec. 20). Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. (ET) at the Al McGuire Center.

Starting Five
1. Thursday's meeting will be the first meeting between the
Big Green and Golden Eagles since the 2007 Blue Sky Classic in Hanover.
Marquette won a close game, 64-61, in the only meeting between the teams. This
will be Dartmouth's first visit to Milwaukee.
2. Marquette will be the second Big East foe for the Big Green this season. Dartmouth has also faced Syracuse. Dartmouth is looking for its first win over a Big East foe since defeating Providence during the 2003-04 season. Dartmouth is 5-24 against Big East opponents.
3. Thursday's game concludes a stretch of back-to-back road games for the Big Green and marks the end of a stretch in which they played six of their last eight games on the road. The Big Green will return home for the 36th annual Blue Sky Classic Dec. 29-30, their first home games since Dec. 9.
4. Dartmouth is looking for its second road win of the season and the first in its last five road games. The Big Green opened the season with a road win at Bryant on Nov. 10 and hasn't won another road contest since.
5. Dartmouth is looking to snap its current eight-game losing streak. After winning its season-opener at Bryant (Nov. 10) Dartmouth has dropped eight consecutive games. Last season, Dartmouth had a 13-game losing streak, the longest in program history.
Dartmouth vs. Marquette
Notables
-This will be the second meeting between the Big Green and
Golden Eagles. The only meeting between the teams took place during the 2006-07
season at the Blue Sky Classic. This will be the Big Green's first trip to
Milwaukee. Dartmouth has played two other teams from Wisconsin in the Wisconsin
Badgers and Wisconsin- Green Bay.
-Dartmouth is the only Ivy League opponent on Marquette's schedule this season. The teams have common opponents in Syracuse as well as possible Blue Sky opponent, Villanova.
-For the second consecutive game the Big Green are facing an opponent in which they are winless in the all-time series. Marquette is one of three non-conference opponents, joining FIU and Old Dominion, as teams in which the Big Green have yet to pick up a victory.
A Win Would ...
1. Give Dartmouth head coach Chris Wielgus her 389th win at
Dartmouth. She entered the 2012-13 season needing 13 wins to claim her 400th
victory as head coach of the Big Green.
2. Snap the Big Green's eight-game skid and give Dartmouth its second road win of the season. Dartmouth last won a road game on Nov. 10 against Bryant. Prior to the Bryant game, Dartmouth's last road win came against Brown on Feb. 18 of last season.
3. Give Dartmouth a win over a Big East opponent for the first time since the 2003-04 season when they defeated Providence. It would also be the first road win against a Big East foe in program history.
Scouting Marquette
Marquette enters Thursday's game with a 4-5, 0-0* Big East
record after falling to Toledo, 82-76, on Dec. 15. The loss was the third
straight for the Golden Eagles and dropped them under .500. Katherine Plouffe
,who is averaging a team-best 12.2 points per game, leads the Marquette
offense. Arlesia Morse is also in double figures with 11.8 points per game. Plouffe
is also grabbing a team-best 8.1 rebounds per game. Reserve Katie Young is
grabbing 5.8 rebounds per game. Head coach Terri Mitchell is in her 17th year
at the helm of the program and has led Marquette to nine postseason appearances,
including three trips to the NCAA Tournament. Tyler Summitt, son of legendary
head coach Pat Summitt is an assistant coach at Marquette. The Golden Eagles
are in the midst of a five-game homestretch that will conclude against Central
Michigan on Dec. 29.
*Marquette will take on Navy on Wednesday before taking on Dartmouth.

Final Game Before the
Holiday Break
Thursday's game is the final game for the Big Green before
they break for the holidays and also marks the end of a stretch of games that
has kept the Big Green away from Leede Arena for six of its last eight games.
Dartmouth last won a game before breaking for the holidays in 2009-10 when they
defeated Delaware State in the USC Tournament.
Dawson Doubles Up on
the Glass
Sophomore center Tia Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has picked
it up on the defensive side of the ball and it was on display against FIU.
Despite struggling to score, she pulled down a game-high and tied her
career-high with 13 rebounds. Dawson has led Dartmouth in rebounding in each of
the last two games and her 13 rebounds was the sixth time in her career she's
posted double-figure rebounds and the first time this season. Her 13 rebounds
against FIU also gave Dawson her 250th career rebound.
Speaking of Doubling
Up
For the second time this season and the first time since the
season-opener at Bryant, the Big Green had three players in double-figures.
Abbey Schmitt (Winnetka, Ill.) led the way with 13 points while Milica Toskovic
(Santa Monica, Calif.) and Kamala Thompson (Selden, N.Y.) added 11 points. This
the first time this season, the Big Green have dropped a game when having at
least three players in double figures.
Oddly enough, senior Faziah Steen (Detroit, Mich.) wasn't in double
figures. It was only the third time this season, but the second time in the
last three games.
Big Green Bench is
Bringing It
The Dartmouth bench was crucial against FIU and scored 19
points, the most points from the bench this season. The Big Green reserves
outscored their FIU counterparts, 19-7, marking just the second time this
season the Dartmouth bench has outscored an opponents bench. The bench play was a complete reversal of the
bench play against Hartford in which the Dartmouth subs were outscored, 29-7.
Big Green with the
Rebounding Edge
One of Dartmouth's strengths this season has been
rebounding. The Big Green have outrebounded six of its nine opponents and have
posted at least 40 rebounds on three occasions. Particularly impressive, has
been Dartmouth's presence on the offensive glass. This season, the Big Green are
averaging 12.6 offensive rebounds per game and have only twice failed to reach
at least 10 offensive boards. The Big Green have been even or outrebounded its
last four opponents. The last opponent to outrebound Dartmouth was Syracuse on
Nov. 29.
