HANOVER, N.H. - The 2012 Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for this weekend in Ithaca, N.Y. Cornell will host the two-day meet at Barton Hall beginning Saturday morning.
Both the Dartmouth men and women will look for strong showings in Central New York following a weekend off for rest in preparation for the 2012 Heps Championships.
The Big Green and the rest of the Ivy League will have their work cut out for them as the Princeton men and women each claimed titles last year at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York, City.
However, Dartmouth has run well in the two months leading up to this weekend's league championship meet, which begins Saturday at 11 a.m. and is set to conclude Sunday afternoon.
On the women's side, it seems as if sophomore Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield) has been setting records every time she sets foot on the track. In just the last month, D'Agostino has taken down school records in both the mile and 3,000 meters. The sophomore's new mark in the latter event beat the previous record by more than 12 seconds.
Senior Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) has also been strong in the distance events, placing near or at the top in almost every race this season, and should factor into the team scoring in her final indoor Heps.
Senior Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.) also set a new Dartmouth mark in the 800 meters last time out at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. In a field of more than 110 runners, Supino's 2:06.94 was good for sixth place, but also bested the previous Dartmouth record of 2:07.86 set by five-time All-American Kristen Manwaring '96.
Early on in the winter, sophomore Megan Krumpoch
(Shrewsbury, Mass.) was a force in the 200 meters as well as the 60-meter
hurdles.
Krumpoch was also part of the record-setting distance medley relay team along
with Pappas, D'Agostino and Supino on Feb. 3 at the Armory in NYC. That night,
the Dartmouth DMR ran to a school and Ivy League record of 11:16.02, finishing
behind only Arkansas with some of the best teams from across the entire nation
also racing.
