NEW YORK, N.Y. — The 67th-ranked Dartmouth men's tennis team lost for only the second time this season at 50th-ranked Columbia on Saturday, 5-2. The loss dropped the Big Green to 14-2 overall and 0-1 in the Ivy League. The Lions improved to 15-2 on the season and 2-0 in the conference.
The Big Green lost the doubles point after losing two of the three matches. Junior Xander Centenari (Towson, Md.) and sophomore Brandon DeBot (Stevens Point, Wis.) won the lone doubles match at the second spot, 8-6.
In singles, Columbia took a 2-0 lead when Centenari lost to Winston Lin at second singles, 6-1, 6-3. After the Lions won fourth singles, they clinched the match when Nathaniel Gery defeated sophomore Cameron Ghorbani, (Lexington, Mass.) 6-4, 6-4, in the third spot.
Dartmouth's only two victories came at fifth and sixth singles. DeBot defeated Bert Vancura, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (13-11) at the fifth spot. In sixth singles, senior Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) defeated Tizian Bucher after Bucher retired in the second set with Ho leading, 6-4, 3-4.
The Big Green next plays on Sunday at Cornell at 2 p.m.
