Fowler, Pierre and Runger Named to FCS All-New England Team

HANOVER, N.H. — The New England Football Writers' Association announced its FCS All-New England Team on Monday, and Dartmouth had three seniors among those selected — offensive lineman Cohle Fowler, running back Dominick Pierre and linebacker Michael Runger. The Big Green have had 13 selections on the team in the past five seasons, with Runger being chosen for a second straight year.

A two-time All-Ivy First Team performer, Runger finished his Dartmouth career leading the team in tackles for a second straight season with 85, which ranked third in the league. Four times he had at least 13 tackles in a game, including three of the final four contests. His 14 stops at Brown and season-high 15 in the season finale against Princeton, along with two pass breakups, gave him back-to-back Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week awards. The 6-2, 225-pound senior from Lisle, Ill., also recorded his first career interception with a pick at Penn while collecting 13 tackles against the Quakers. For his career, Runger compiled 212 tackles, five of which went for a loss, with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, an interception and five passes broken up.

Pierre, Dartmouth's second-leading rusher all-time with 2,638 yards, became the fifth player in the program's 132-year history to run for 1,000 yards in a season. The workhorse took the handoff 214 times — far and away the most in the league — to compile his 1,064 yards to rank second in the Ancient Eight, and he is currently 15th nationally in yards per game (106.4). The 5-11, 215-pound native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., ran for 13 touchdowns as well, with at least one in every contest to set a Big Green record. His 30 career rushing touchdowns rank second all-time, and he sits in sixth on the Dartmouth career scoring list with 180 points. Five times Pierre topped 100 yards in a game, with a season-high 167 in a 20-13 homecoming victory over Yale and 160 more in a 56-0 thrashing of Columbia. The tri-captain also had the second most receptions for Dartmouth with 21 for 219 yards.

Fowler, a 6-5, 315-pound native of Claremore, Okla., was an All-Ivy First Team honoree like Pierre and Runger. He started every game at right guard, helping to plow the way for Pierre to attain his statistical achievements. Fowler was integral in allowing Dartmouth to rack up more than 2,000 yards on the ground (a league-leading 2,193) and through the air (2,056) for the first time in program history, while the 4,249 yards are second only to the 1992 squad that was led by future NFL quarterback Jay Fiedler '94.

Of the 30 players on the All-New England Team, 12 hail from the Ivy League as Brown and Harvard each had four selections and Yale had one.
