Starting Five
1. The Big Green will look to rebound after dropping
back-to-back contests for the first time in Ivy League action this season.
Dartmouth is looking for sweeps of both Yale and Brown as they defeated both
squads in the first meetings earlier this season.
2. Dartmouth is looking to keep its home winning streak going. The Big Green have won their last two home games and enter the weekend with a 2-0 record at home in Ivy League action. Last season, Dartmouth only won two league home games.
3. The Big Green will "Play4Kay" during the annual Play4Kay game on Friday when they host Yale. The Big Green will don pink shooting shirts and the Norris-Cotton Cancer Center will also be on hand with information. There will also be raffles and giveaway items.
4. Sophomore Abbey Schmitt looks to continue her success as of late. The forward enters the weekend with three consecutive games in double figures. The three straight games mark her longest double-figure streak this season.
5. Dartmouth's four Ivy League wins and six overall wins equal last season's Ivy League and overall win totals. The Big Green haven't had a winning season since 2008-09 and haven't had more than four Ivy League wins since the 2009-10 season when they went 6-8.
Dartmouth vs. Yale Notables
-This is the second meeting between the Big Green and
Bulldogs. Dartmouth claimed the first meeting, 63-48, in New Haven, Conn., on
Feb. 2. The win snapped a six-game win streak for Yale and gave the Big Green
their first road win over the Bulldogs since 2008-09.
-The Big Green own a 51-20 series advantage and prior to dropping six consecutive to Yale had swept the Bulldogs five times dating back to the 2000-01 season.
Dartmouth vs. Brown Notables
-Saturday's meeting between Dartmouth and Brown will be the
second meeting between the Bears and Big Green. Dartmouth won the first meeting
49-41 on Feb. 1, which gave the Big Green two consecutive wins over the Bears,
both road victories.
-Dartmouth owns a 50-22 series advantage and enters Saturday's game looking for its third straight win over the Bears. Brown defeated Dartmouth at Leede Arena last season and has won the last two meetings in Hanover. Prior to the 2010-11 season Dartmouth had won 14 straight home games against Brown.
A Win Would ...
1. Give Dartmouth head coach Chris Wielgus her 394th win as
Dartmouth head coach. She entered the 2012-13 season needing 13 wins to claim
her 400th victory as head coach of the Big Green.
2. One win would snap Dartmouth's current two-game slide and keep the Big Green in the top three of the Ivy League standings. Dartmouth enters the weekend tied for third place with Harvard, who will also face Brown and Yale this weekend.
3. Should the Big Green sweep the weekend it would be the first season sweeps for Dartmouth. The Big Green last swept Yale and Brown in the same season during the 2008-09 season. Dartmouth last swept Brown in 2009-10.
Scouting Yale
Yale enters the weekend with a 9-13, 4-4 Ivy League record
after sweeping Cornell and Columbia on the road. The Bulldogs picked up a 67-58
win over Cornell and posted a 62-43 win over Columbia. This will be the second
meeting between the Big Green and Bulldogs; the Big Green took the first
meeting, 63-48, in New Haven, Conn., on February 2. Sarah Halejian leads the offense with a team
best 13.2 points per game and is joined in double figures by Janna Graf with
11.6 while Megan Vasquez is contributing 9.5 points per game. The Bulldogs have
won three of their last four games and will spend their second consecutive
weekend on the road. The Big Green leads the series 51-20 and snapped Yale's
six-game win streak in the first meeting this season.
Scouting Brown
Brown, who will take on Harvard on Friday night, enters the
weekend with a 7-15, 1-7 Ivy League record after falling to Columbia and
Cornell last weekend. The Bears are currently on a seven-game losing streak and
its lone Ivy win is against Yale back in January. Lauren Clarke and Sheila
Dixon lead the Brown offense. Clarke is averaging a team-best 13.7 points per
game while Dixon is contributing 11.7 points. Dixon also spearheads the
defensive efforts with a team-best 4.9 rebounds per game. Dartmouth won the
first meeting between the teams this season, 49-41, in Providence. The Big
Green lead the all-time series 50-22 and have won the last two meetings.
Dartmouth Gives
Princeton All They Can Handle In Loss
The Big Green battled until the very end and gave the
league-leading Princeton Tigers a battle until the end in a 77-65 loss at
Jadwin Gym on Friday. Dartmouth's 12-point loss was the slimmest margin of
victory for the Tigers against a conference foe in over a year. Should make for
an interesting rematch!
Zimmer Goes Off
Against Princeton
Junior Nicola Zimmer (Chevy Chase, Md.) was a large part of
the offense that kept the Tigers on their toes. The point guard posted a
career-high 19 points in the game for her fourth game in double figures in the
last six games. She joins Faziah Steen (Detroit, Mich.) as the only Big Green
players to score 19 points this season. Steen hit 19 in a win at Yale earlier
this month. Zimmer's 19 points also gave her 400 career points.
Dawson Continues to
Clean the Glass for the Big Green
Tia Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has been a huge factor in
the Big Green's defensive resurgence this season. The center tied her
career-high with 13 rebounds against Princeton, a mark she has reached on three
occasions this season. Dawson has posted
double figure rebounds in six games this season and in three of Dartmouth's
last five. Dawson, who has 359 career rebounds, picked up her 350th rebound
against Princeton.
Block City
Sophomore Tia Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) is "blocking" her
way into the Dartmouth record books. With her four blocks over the weekend she
now has 72 career blocks, which ranks her 10th on Dartmouth's all-time list.
She needs just 139 more to move into a tie with Illsa Webeck as Dartmouth's
career shot-blocker.
Double Time
The Big Green continues to have success when they can
distribute the scoring. Dartmouth had three players in double figures against
Princeton, which marked the third consecutive game three players have reached
double figures. Five of Dartmouth's wins have come when they have at least two
players in double-figures.
Schmitt Taking It Up
a Notch
Abbey Schmitt (Winnetka, Ill.) has taken her game to the
next level over the last several weeks. She posted her second career
double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds against Columbia and hasn't looked
back. She picked up her third Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor following the
Columbia game and has been in double figures in each of the last three games -
her longest streak of the season.
Perfection From the
Line
Faziah Steen (Detroit, Mich.) is Dartmouth's top free throw
shooter and it showed against Princeton and Penn as she was a perfect 7-of-7
from the line over the weekend. In the last five games, Steen is 14-of-15.
