HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly football award winners today, and Dartmouth wide receiver
Ryan McManus received the Offensive Player of the Week honor. This is the first weekly award for McManus and the fourth for a Big Green football player this fall — one following each game thus far.
A senior from Mendota Heights, Minnesota, McManus pulled off several circus catches among his career-high 12 receptions for 188 yards — the most by a Big Green receiver in seven years — to help Dartmouth defeat previously undefeated Yale on the road, 38-31. Three of the passes he hauled in went for at least 30 yards, including a 30-yard, diving catch in the end zone that briefly gave the Green a lead in the third quarter. On the previous possession, he had a 42-yard catch to set up another touchdown, and his diving grab for a 40-yard gain in the fourth quarter helped Dartmouth score the winning TD with 2:20 to play.
Aside from his receiving duties, McManus also returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to begin the Big Green rally from a 14-point deficit.
His 12 catches are tied for the third-most ever in program history, his 188 receiving yards rank seventh-most and his 245 all-purpose yards place him eighth in the Dartmouth annals.
Other Big Green players to be named an Ivy Player of the Week this fall are junior quarterback
Dalyn Williams as the co-Offensive Player after the season opener, senior kick returner
Kirby Schoenthaler as the Special Teams Player after week two, and junior nickelback
Frankie Hernandez as the Defensive Player after a 31-13 victory over Penn last week.
Getting a mention on the Honor Roll for the week were Williams, who set career highs with 32 completions and 388 passing yards (fourth-most ever at Dartmouth), and junior linebacker
Will McNamara who registered a career-best 15 tackles against the top-scoring FCS team in the country.
Dartmouth (3-1, 2-0 Ivy) gets its final breather from Ivy play this weekend as Holy Cross (2-5) comes to town for the annual homecoming game at 1:30 p.m. The Crusaders have lost four straight games, the last two by just a field goal, including a double-overtime defeat at Brown on Saturday. Dartmouth fans can watch the game live by subscribing to Big Green Insider on the Ivy League Digital Network (ILDN), and free audio is available on the ILDN with Dick Lutsk and Wayne Young calling the action on 99Rock, WFRD 99.3 FM in Hanover.
Notes: McManus was also selected as the Ivy League Player of the Week by College Sports Madness … McManus' brother, Timmy '11, earned two weekly awards for the Big Green in his career, both Rookie of the Week honors back in 2007 … dating back to last year, Dartmouth has had at least one player recognized by the Ivy League for six straight weeks.
