HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly football award winners today, and Dartmouth quarterback
Dalyn Williams shared the Offensive Player of the Week award with Yale running back Tyler Varga. This is the third time he has earned this honor in his career, having received it after the season opener both this year and last, and the seventh time a Big Green player has earned a weekly award from the league in 2014.
The 6-foot, 210-pound junior from Corinth, Texas, broke the Dartmouth record for total yards in a single game with 443 thanks to a whopping 381 yards passing and another 62 rushing in a 42-7 victory at Cornell on Saturday. Williams connected on 24-of-34 throws for a 70.6 completion percentage with a career-high four touchdown tosses of 24, 32, 30 and 60 yards. He needed just six carries to run for his 62 yards, including a nine-yard keeper into the end zone to give the Big Green the lead for good early in the second quarter. The 381 passing yards are the sixth most in a game in program history and seven shy of his personal-best mark set four weeks ago at Yale.
Williams ranks second in the Ivy League in passing efficiency (148.9 — 14th nationally) and touchdown passes (14), fourth in total offense (273.4 yards per game) and passing (223.7 ypg), and even ninth in rushing (49.7 ypg).
Other Big Green players to be named an Ivy Player of the Week this fall are senior kick returner
Kirby Schoenthaler (Special Teams) after week two, junior nickelback
Frankie Hernandez (Defense) twice for his performances against Penn and Holy Cross, senior wide receiver
Ryan McManus (Offense) following a 38-31 win at Yale on Oct. 11 and junior linebacker
Will McNamara (Defense) after a 27-7 win at Columbia on Oct. 25.
Getting a mention on the Honor Roll this week were junior wide receiver
Victor Williams, who caught seven of Williams' passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, and junior defensive end
Sawyer Whalen who tied for the team lead with six tackles and one sack.
Dartmouth (6-2, 4-1 Ivy) will play its final home game of the 2014 season on Saturday at noon when the Brown Bears (4-4, 2-3 Ivy) come to Memorial Field for Senior Day. The Big Green, a game behind Harvard in the league standings, need a victory to keep their title hopes alive. In the series with Brown, however, the road team has won the last four meetings.
The game will be broadcast live on NBC Regional Sports Networks, including CSN New England, with Eric Frede and former Big Green quarterback
Brian Mann '02 calling the action. Dartmouth fans can also watch the telecast live online by subscribing to Big Green Insider on the Ivy League Digital Network (ILDN), and free audio is available on the ILDN with Dick Lutsk and Wayne Young calling the action on 99Rock, WFRD 99.3 FM in Hanover.
