PRINCETON, N.J. — Junior quarterback Dalyn Williams completed 30-of-35 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns while the Dartmouth defense stymied host Princeton in a 41-10 Big Green victory in front of 6,663 fans at Princeton Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The win allowed Dartmouth (8-2, 6-1 Ivy) to post its best record in 17 years, but like 1997, the Big Green finished a game back in the Ivy League standings as Harvard (10-0, 7-0 Ivy) completed an undefeated campaign with a last-minute, 31-24 victory over Yale.
The Tigers finished their season with an even 5-5 mark and 4-3 record in the league to finish fourth. Dartmouth has now won five straight against Princeton for the first time in the 94-game history of the series, and in the process retained the Governor's Trophy and Sawhorse Dollar which go to the victor of the game.

Senior Bo Patterson was the recipient of three of the four touchdown tosses, catching five passes on the day for 129 yards for his first career 100-yard game in his final outing. He is the second receiver in as many weeks to catch three scoring strikes as Ryan McManus — who led all players with 10 catches for 96 yards and a touchdown — had three last week in a win over Brown. Prior to those two games, Dartmouth had not had anyone catch three in 13 years.
The offense surpassed 500 yards for a third straight week, compiling 518 overall with 341 coming through the air. On the other side of the ball, the Dartmouth defense limited a Tiger team averaging nearly 425 yards a game to a mere 228 — 125 passing and 103 on the ground. Connor Michelsen completed 18 of his 33 passes for just 102 yards, while A.J. Glass led Princeton with 41 rushes on eight carries.
Dartmouth wasted little time in taking the lead. After taking the opening kick and picking up one first down, Williams launched a bomb down the left sideline to Patterson, who caught it in stride for a 58-yard touchdown just 1:47 into the game.
The Princeton offense then went right to work and marched down to the 22 before sophomore linebacker Folarin Orimolade sniffed out a pass from Michelsen to another Tiger quarterback, Quinn Epperly, and dropped him for a seven-yard loss on third down. But Nolan Bieck came on and drilled a low liner through the uprights for a 46-yard field goal, matching his career long, to make it a 7-3 game.
After the quick start, both teams had difficulty maintaining a drive as the two sides combined for six consecutive punts. But beginning with a 13-yard pass to junior Victor Williams and a 15-yard run by freshman Ryder Stone, Dartmouth strung together a 10-play, 80-yard possession that culminated with a four-yard strike to McManus in the back of the end zone. Sophomore Alex Gakenheimer provided the point after to give Dartmouth a 14-3 lead with 9:04 left in the half.
The Tigers produced just one first down on their final two possessions of the half, and the Big Green capitalized on a 24-yard punt return by McManus to the Princeton 31 with barely three minutes left until the intermission. When Dartmouth was faced with a 4th-and-1 at the Tiger six-yard line, head coach Buddy Teevens was left with a decision to make and called timeout to mull it over. Ultimately he chose to kick a 22-yard field goal, and Gakenheimer split the uprights to send the Green into the locker room with a 17-3 lead.

The Dartmouth momentum continued into the second half as the Big Green took complete control of the game. Princeton failed to get a first down on the first possession, and McManus returned the ensuing punt to the Princeton 38. On the very next play, Williams fired a 38-yard throw to Patterson in the end zone for a 24-3 advantage.
Orimolade made another big play with an 11-yard sack to end the next Princeton possession, which Dartmouth converted into a 29-yard Gakenheimer field goal. When the Tigers failed to convert a 4th-and-6 at the Big Green 28, Williams guided his offense into field goal range only to have Princeton produce one of its few highlights by blocking the 38-yard attempt.
The setback proved to be minor as the defense did not allow the Tigers to cross midfield early in the fourth quarter, forcing them to punt, one of nine on the afternoon. Starting at its own 18, Dartmouth handed off to junior Brian Grove, who broke free for a 61-yard gain. Three plays later and Williams found Patterson from 12 yards out for the senior's career-high third score and Williams' fourth to match his career best.
Junior defensive end Sawyer Whalen forced a fumble on Princeton's next drive, and junior corner Vernon Harris scooped up the loose ball, returning it four yards to midfield. McManus then had his final catch of the day, a 42-yard diving grab at the Tiger eight, and Stone took the handoff twice before reaching the end zone on a six-yard scamper to give Dartmouth a 41-3 lead with just over 12 minutes left.

The Tigers scored their lone touchdown of the day on a nine-play, 65-yard drive with Joe Rhattigan diving in from a yard out.
Grove finished the day with 77 rushing yards on just seven carries, while Stone added 59 yards on 13 rushes. Senior defensive tackle Jeff Winthrop and the Ivy League's leading tackler, junior linebacker Will McNamara, led Dartmouth with nine tackles apiece and sophomore cornerback Danny McManus added eight with three pass breakups. Orimolade and junior linebacker Zach Slafsky both had two tackles for a loss.
Notes: The win was the 100th for Coach Teevens in his head coaching career … Williams finished the season with 2,119 passing yards, making him the sixth Dartmouth quarterback with more than 2,000 yards in a season … he also threw 21 touchdown passes, joining Jay Fiedler '94 as the only Big Green QBs with 20 or more in a season … his season completion percentage (67.5) broke Fielder's single-season mark of 64.1 set in 1992 … Williams is the first Big Green quarterback to throw 11 touchdowns over a three-game span as well … McManus finished the year with 68 receptions, fourth-most ever at Dartmouth … the Big Green had not had three straight games of 500 or more total yards since the 1992 squad did it to end its season … they also scored 40 or more points for three straight games for the first time since 1935.
