ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior Dalyn Williams threw for 381 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, plus ran for 62 yards and another score set a Dartmouth single-game record for total yards to lead the Big Green (6-2, 4-1 Ivy) to a 42-7 victory over host Cornell (0-8, 0-5 Ivy) on Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. Five different Big Green players reached the end zone to help Dartmouth defeat the Big Red for the sixth-straight meeting.
The Big Green racked up 583 yards of offense, their most in 32 years, while the defense put the clamps on after Cornell opened the game with a 75-yard touchdown drive, holding the Big Red to 308 yards. Junior running back Kyle Bramble needed just eight carries to rack up 89 yards on the ground, including a 39-yard scoring run, plus caught four passes for 68 yards and another touchdown.

The top receiver for Dartmouth was junior Victor Williams, who snared seven passes for 101 yards — his second career 100-yard game — including a 32-yard touchdown grab. Senior wide receiver Ryan McManus caught a 30-yard scoring strike, and sophomore running back Abrm McQuarters took a screen pass 60 yards for his first collegiate touchdown.
The Big Green defense was almost as stout as the offense after the opening drive, collecting six sacks and a total of 10 tackles for a loss, both season highs. Junior end Sawyer Whalen had one of the sacks and shared the team lead in tackles with sophomore linebacker Alex McCrory with six stops. Another sophomore linebacker, Folarin Orimolade, dropped two Big Red ball carriers for a loss, including a seven-yard sack, while the secondary broke up four passes and picked off another, courtesy of junior cornerback Vernon Harris.
Everything was coming up Red early as Cornell running Luke Hagy, who enjoyed his second career 100-yard game on the ground, broke free for a 48-yard touchdown run less than three minutes into the game. On Dartmouth's ensuing possession, Williams attempted a pass on the fourth play only to have the ball slip from his hand into the arms of Michael Turner for an interception.
The Big Red managed to reach the Dartmouth 15-yard line, but were forced to settle for a 39-yard field goal attempt that missed well short and wide of its mark.
Williams back to work and guided the Big Green offense 78 yards in nine plays, the last a screen pass that Bramble took 24 yards for the touchdown. Sophomore Alex Gakenheimer provided the extra point to knot the score at seven, which is how the score remained through the first quarter.
Dartmouth needed little more than four minutes to put its next points on the board. Following a 20-yard toss to McManus put the Big Green on the Cornell nine, Williams kept the snap himself and ran to the left corner of the end zone to cap a nine-play, 83-yard drive for a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter.
After a quick three-and-out for the Big Red, Williams completed 5-of-6 passes during the next Dartmouth possession to help overcome an uncharacteristic three penalties. The final completion came on a pump fake to get the defense to bite, allowing Williams to connect with his namesake Victor Williams, who was wide open in the end zone from 32 yards out.
The Big Green had an opportunity to put more points on the board before the intermission, but the Cornell defense was able to mount a goal-line stand that thwarted a run on 4th-and-goal at the one with 20 seconds on the clock.
In the third quarter, Dartmouth left no doubt as to the outcome of the game by scoring three more touchdowns. On the first drive of the half, 73 of the 75 yards were gobbled up on four completions, the last a 30-yard fade to McManus in the end zone.

The next time the Big Green got the ball, they began on the Cornell 48 thanks to an 11-yard punt return by McManus. Bramble had a six-yard run and a three-yard reception before taking advantage of a huge hole on 3rd-and-1, galloping untouched for a 39-yard touchdown.
Less than four minutes later in the game, Gakenheimer had his 40-yard field goal attempt partially blocked by Jonathan Ford, ending his streak of 12 consecutive field goal conversions to start Gakenheimer's career, nine of which had come this season.
Harris got the ball back for Dartmouth quickly, intercepting a long pass on Cornell's second play after the blocked field goal. The Big Green sent McQuarters into the game, and when Williams dumped a pass off to him to avoid a blitz, McQuarters had an escort down the right sideline for his 60-yard score to conclude the scoring.
Cornell reached the red zone three times in the final quarter, only to be rebuffed each time. Twice the Dartmouth defense came up with fourth-down stops, and the third close call came on a halfback pass that was caught with the receiver heading for the goal line. But sophomore Danny McManus jarred the ball free and junior Josh Winslow pounced on it at the one to keep the Big Red from putting another score on the board.
Robert Somborn completed 20-of-33 passes for 182 yards with one interception on the afternoon, with Collin Shaw — seven catches for 70 yards — being his favorite target. Hagy finished the day with 110 yards rushing on 18 carries and the Big Red's lone touchdown.
Dartmouth returns to Hanover for its final home game next Saturday when Brown (4-4, 2-3 Ivy) comes to town after dropping a thrilling 45-42 game to Yale today. The game kicks off at noon and will be televised regionally by NBC Sports on CSN New England and other channels, as well as streamed live on Big Green Insider on the Ivy League Digital Network, with Eric Frede and Brian Mann '02 calling the action. Cornell will try its luck at Columbia (0-8, 0-5 Ivy) next Saturday as both teams search for their first win of the 2014 campaign.
Notes: The 381 passing yards for Dalyn Williams are the sixth most in Dartmouth history and seven yards shy of his personal best set four weeks ago at Yale … the last Big Green quarterback to throw four TDs in a game was Tom Bennewitz '08 on Nov. 3, 2007, also against Cornell … Dartmouth last had 500 total yards against Cornell last year (510) … the last time the Big Green had as many yards came on Nov. 6, 1982 against Columbia (587) … Victor Williams has two 100-yard receiving games to his credit having amassed 113 yards on five catches at Penn a year ago … senior linebacker Tyler Stout recorded his first career sack … Bramble has at least one touchdown in every game this season … the 60-yard pass to McQuarters is the longest Dartmouth play from scrimmage this season, and Bramble's 39-yard TD run is the longest on the ground.
