STORRS, Conn. – A mere five points separated Connecticut and Dartmouth in a dual meet on Saturday, but it was the Huskies pulled away with the victory, 152.5-147.5, on the final relay of the competition.
The Big Green won nine events, led by Nejc Zupan with four first-place finishes and James Verhagen with three.
Zupan continues to dominate this season and won four races against the Huskies. In the mixed 100-Breast, Zupan won in 56.37. His second win came in the mixed 200-breast in 2:00.83. In the 200-IM, Zupan won in convincing fashion of 1:50.04, five full seconds in front of the next finisher from UConn. Zupan's finial win came in a team relay.
Verhagen's wins came in the 100-Back, 200-Back and 200-Medley Relay. In the 100-Back, he won in 50.94, finishing .38 seconds ahead of the second place finisher from UConn. In his second win, Verhagen easily won the 200-Back in 1:51.17. His third win came in the 200-Medley Relay.
In the 200-Medley Relay, Dartmouth won the event with the group of Andrew North, Daniel Whitcomb, Verhagen and Zupan in 1:32.45.
Jun Oh claimed a pair of wins also for the Green, first in the 1,000-Free, he won in 9:30.57 and then he tied for first in the mixed 500-Free in 4:30.97. David Harmon won the 100-Fly in 50.22 and North finished second.
Brett Gillis took second in the one-meter board with 294.45 points.
Dartmouth will travel to Columbia next Saturday.
